Pekin Duck Club!

Well Ping is happy now! We got two female Pekin ducklings yesterday and they are all getting along and Ping no longer has to sleep with her rubber duck. It has been awhile since I have had baby ducks so how long before they can go outside in a coop? Here are a couple of pictures of the three girls.
So cute! As for going outside, if it's really warm (close to your brooder temps for the first few weeks) during the day where you are, they can spend at least the daytime hours outside, but in the cooler weather they really need to be feathered out before they stay outside full-time. You will also want them fully feathered before you leave the outside with access to deep water unsupervised. Of course, you can always take them outside for little play-times as long as they're not out too long to get chilled.

Hello friends. I am new to all farm animals (as an adult anyway) but we have two 8 week old pekins (George & Jemima PuddleDuck) as well as three 6 wk old hens. I only had intentions of chickens but the good folks at the farm store thought it a good idea to let my two yr old hold a ducking. They turned out to be a wonderful addition, and we love their antics. They'll be much happier if/when we get our pond sealed though. Anyone happen to know a hog farmer in the clarksville TN area? I need to *rent* a couple for a few months .. I hear they seal ponds quite effectively.

Congrats!! And Welcome!!!

I would love to join this group! To have people to talk to about the our ducks (Pekins) and how they have stolen our hearts, share pics and ask questions. My friends and family think my Fiancee and I are kind of strange for choosing a Pekin duck instead of a dog to spoil and call our kid.

I had a quick question. After this broody is done hatching if any hatch, will I have to move the other female and drake out of there?? Not sure what they would do to the baby ducks.

My ducks! The female without the Afro is the best thing that ever happened to me. The other one is a crested duck. She follows me wherever I go. I can pick her up and she will fall asleep. I love her so much!
