Pekin Duck Club!

I happily forgot that pekins are MEAT ducks. But my hatched Rouens are keeping right with them. They clean 2 LBS. of feed and a gallon waterer (Most on floor of brooder I am sure.) in 1/2 day. Only time they like me is when 1 or other is empty. Have not lost any yet, just 1 hatchery Rouen with them was lost. Other 9 Rouens doing fine. Will move tomorrow to larger growing pen for space and outdoor access.

My 2 month old pekins are like that too - I'm a big scary thing, unless I'm holding food.

Hi everyone . I just did my first hatch and out of 5 eggs in lockdown I ended up with 1 duck that was an assisted hatch after no progress after 24 hours after external pip. This is Bowie

Here is a pic of my two watet hating pekins. They are very skittish of me as we had an incident last weekend she I tried to get them to swim, and they freaked out!

I'm new to ducks too, I let my duck swim the day after hatching but only for a few minutes, I did this everyday and now it likes the water. If it's new to your duck it could take awhile.

Unless there is another duck that likes the water. As soon as they see it's not that scary but actually fun and safe you will have a difficult time getting them out again!

Hang in there Bowie didn't pip until day 28. He tried to come out through the pip hole and didn't zip. Do the next morning I could see fluffy yellow in the hole and new he needed assistance . He was hatched at school so the teacher peeled away the shell with no bleeding and he is doing well.

I have 9 mallard eggs and 3 have turned blackish like this the picture( it's not my picture but that is how they look) please help they mean everything to me

Unless it's "stinky" leave it in. One o my 5 eggs turned black and it was the only one that hatched. And here he is

Ok Pekin lovers. I'm trying my second hatch, set day is hopfully Friday. My incubator is holding a steady temp. I've read so many different variations on humidity during the first 25 days and during lock down. What RH do you use for incubating and lockdown?
