Pekin Duck Club!

He's not a pure Pekin, is he?
He looks like he has something besides Pekin in him. very pretty duck. Maybe some wild mallards stopped over for a visit.

Doesn't matter does it? and your geese are beautiful too, boy have they grown.

Hello! I have a Pekin that I hatched that I'm questioning whether it's pure bred or not. I went to a farm in MI, all I saw where pure white geese and Pekin duck, free ranging on a huge farm that is a learning center for children. There are, horse, chickens, ducks and geese oh and a cow and her baby. Lots of people there all the time. Well, I received some eggs from the farm in April. I was told they were Embden geese and Pekin duck eggs. Well, when they hatched, the Embden looked normal, but I ended up with a goose with a black beak and feet(later found out it was from a Chinese/Toulouse pair) the one and only duck, was yellow with black spots. Here is my "Pekin" at 4 weeks... Here is a video from today...
I I don't think its a pure pekin, but he's beautiful.

I doubt it's a drake feather your seeing at that age, now you may be able to tell by picking each up, ducks will quack loudly drake will be raspy quack. And sometimes the drake will still chirp when the duck is already quacking
[/quote. I have two girls from the same hatch but one starting quacking weeks before the other one. Thought for sure we had a girl and boy, which we didn't want so I was happy when the other one starting quacking too.

Today is lockdown for my first batch off pekins. I went to move my second batch to another incubator and noticed a lot of my ducks are already pipping. The humidity dropped of course because I had opened the lid but I got it up for lockdown. Will they be okay? Its at 75%. Before hand it was close to 50% and dropped to 40% while trying to get set up. But I got it all done and raised in about 20mins. Please help I'm worried about them.

Don't worry they'll be fine! We lifted the lid every day on the bator to spray the eggs and rested some. Humidity will go back to normal (around 75 % for hatching) and it will shortly spike when they hatch too.

Ducks are hardier than you things. Even the mom will leave the nest for some time to clean and eat and take care of herself every day. Then there is naturally no heat, humidity or anything else either. All natural so don't worry too much! Just remember for them hatching: HANDS COMPLETELY OFF!

They can take a couple if days to completely hatch after their external pip. That's normal too. Don't help cause you could damage the still working veins of the inner membrane and damage the ducklings development badly! Let them work it out. No matter how hard it is on you (believe me the suspense and waiting will almost kill you!). Good luck!

Oh that's good to hear. I just couldn't believe they was already pipping. I've hatched quail so I know what u mean about suspense & waiting. It's nerve racking to me. The hardest part for me is making my husband leave them alone. I can usualky curb my enthusiasm by watching through the windows. Should I spray them even with the humidity up?

I think they will be just fine. Temp must have been too warm for them to pip early.

Don't spray them, just watch and wait.

My little Pekin hurt her foot. I was wondering if anyone has an advice. I have been putting blue kote on it in the evening and putting up her water at night so she doesn't play in it. She really is the messiest of all of my ducks.
