Pekin Duck Club!

Hi everyone

I have 3 pekin ducks about 8 months old, 2 female and 1 drake, recently I have noticed the feathers missing on my girls necks..I know its the drake roughing them up when he is mating but I'm worried he will go to far

is there anything I can do without seperating them ?
You can put a temporary divider fence between them. Sometimes things will settle down, but you are right to be concerned. Drakes can seriously hurt, even kill ducks. Many times this does not happen, but it can.

Thank you :) I will try this but as the pond/pool is in their pen it will be hard and unfair for one or the other !

I understand about your concern for fairness, but without trying to worry you, a little unfairness is nothing to a mortally injured duck whose life depends on you protecting her.

May I join? I have four ducks. Th most friendly is my female Pekin who my husband named of all thing Aflac! Her quacks are quite boisterous but I consider it just one voice in our joyful duck choir. Thanks to them, there is no way I could sneak into the house!

I agree with Amiga. I'd rather divide the pen with only one having the pool. Put a nice good size pan in the area so the enclosed duck can wash his face:)

Thank you guys :) I will deffinatly get the trouble maker separated from my girls, hopefully it's just a phase that he's going through!

Ste
Hey guys! So I have a pekin duck named quacky. He's almost 2 years old. Because of my new work schedule it's too much to take care of him right now and I'm trying to find him a new nice home. I live in New York. Any suggestions?! I have no idea where to bring a duck.

Where in NY are you? If you are close to where I am in upstate NY I would be more than happy to take him. I'm sure my ladies wouldn't mind a new man, and he would be great for me to use as an unrelated breeder. We have a drake from a similar situation who has been a wonderful addition to our flock.
We are about 40 miles West of Albany.
