After #2 and before #3, you can tell the girls by their volume!

Can you tell them by size as ducklings? I just bought my first two pekin ducklings last weekend and one is a lot bigger than the other...

Folks question for y'all, I purchased my ducklings two days ago they're about four or five days old now. Yesterday I noticed they were sleeping in the middle of the brooder box today they are at the furthest end of the box from the heat lamp. Its seventy degrees in the room they're in wondering if they're just warm enough or if I should encourage them to the end with the lamp. They seem fine I don't notice anyone looking cold or ill.

I would get a thermometer in the brooder. Sometimes ducklings have died from heat stroke - that is the extreme, but it has happened. Brooders can heat up and be too hot. Your ducklings would probably be okay at about 85F, and the only way I know to be sure is to have an unbreakable thermometer in there with them - under the heat source.

Please add me to your Pekin Club. I have 12 Pekins about 6 weeks old and 2 Khaki Campbell hens, one of the Khakis has a broken leg and bites on her neck.still in m


These two were the survivors of what I believe was a racoon who got inside the pen, it killed 4 hens and one drake. Happened about six weeks ago, I am still in mourning I had raised them from 5 days old, had them one year before they were killed.

Frank and bean are the larger two ( 3wks) Elsa and Anna are the smaller, (a week)

Thank you! I thought Webster was clever and I wanted a duck named puddles ever since a client brought one in to the vet clinic I used to work at. It's such a cute name for a duck!

Well Puddles is perfect because my friend who owns a precious pekin girl says she LOVES to stomp in mud puddles. And Webster is a clever name, I agree.
