Pekin Duck Club!

I would love to post pics here if no one minds... This year we will pen them together once they are okay to be around each other. They had a brief introduction through a divider today. No one seems interested really. Which is much better than the 7 week old Pekins hissing like they do to our kitten. It's actually pretty cute! Then once the all come to their first breeding season the pilgrims will be big enough to free range our fenced in back yard and maybe the pasture. We will have to keep them separated during breeding season as we have only one female pekin. The other pekin is a male and so are our goslings. They will probably gang up on her if we keep them together. It will be an interesting year!
I would love it if you posted pics here and personally I don't mind. I think the goslings are cute and now that I have seen what they look like as adults, they are beautiful. The Pekins hissing is cute you have to admit and I do agree with you there. I am glad you have a set up that allows separation of your ducks and geese during breeding season. would the geese as males try to mate with the Pekin girl or do they know the difference in species?

I'm envious of the pics here!!! My ducks aren't hand fed or cuddly, they do come when called to go to their coop at night, so my pics aren't nearly as good! I do have some peas now, so I'm going to try bribery.....! Peep was my first duck, dumped in our pond one night! She's most excellent and a VERY good mom. 4 of my crosses are her babies, but in my flock, everyone helps babysit.... Even the geese!

So much cuteness here!
@yari1331 & @caesargirl thanks for sharing & welcome to the group!

@quakingtons very sorry for your loss!! I would definitely try adding an adult duck for company.

@JLynnsDuckies please do share geese pics here! otherwise, I wouldn't know where to find them.

I spend all my time on the duck threads.

Bribery goes a long way. As someone on here said, the way to a ducks heart is via their tummy. Mine nibble my fingers even when I don't have treats now.

OMG...you have geese, too! How fun! I so love all the birds. Peep is beautiful!

Weeeellllll..... I don't have geese... They're Canadian geese. Again, dumped. One has angel wing and two are pinioned. The last is Angel and Doris baby from last year! When I called our warden, they talked with me about the laws regarding them. I'm in the process of getting (trying) a permit for them. Our local rehabbers are full, so, I'm getting a non releasable wildlife domestication permit. (Free vet care because I'm being monitored right now!!!) but, long story short, they were raised with people, because they're friendly! So everyone ducksits! Hers another horrible picture to squint at!!!!!

Wow, sadly, dumping seems to be more common that I ever imagined. We have a guinea wandering around, waking me up regularly, that must have been a pet to someone. I plan to try to home it with me or my neighbor, since she has a guinea, but just haven't had time to read up on how to lure the bird to me.

You're so wonderful to care for all the babies! Good luck with the permit...is that a lot of hassle? Free vet care is nice!

The paperwork is a pain, but I'm so new to geese, the vet care for them has been awesome. I'm not allowed to specifically feed them, or provide any shelter or handling. But, like any wild animal, if they eat the food on the lawn for my ducks or wander into the duck pen, they can. If in the duck house, the door cannot be closed.

This is all because the geese are protected (or something like that), right? So you're doing what you can without breaking any rules.

There seem to be more than plenty Canadian geese so I don't understand them being protected. I'm glad the geese get along with your feathered family.

This has all been quite the experience!!! I'm having a lot of fun though. My husband even is enjoying it! He just bought me an incubator, sooooo....... And one of Peeps babies, is on a clutch of 9 right now. Laid the 9th one yesterday!!! What's your plan for trying to catch this guinea....???
