Now don't get discouraged. so many things going on in your life right now. First off if acting normal then most likely you don't need the Tylan, don't want to use an antibiotic unless necessary. Then ducks can have all kinds of colored poo depending on what they are eating do they get to wander around outside alot? Sometimes my ducks and geese will eat dirt and their poop can be blk I asked about this once on here about my goose gorging on dirt and i was told they are after minerals, I have no idea but she is very healthy so what ever the reason it doesn't hurt her. And all duck poo is very smelly wait till they go broody@ Julie bird they are as normal and crazy as ever, I clean up their poo so I see it, if they were outside ducks, I probably would have never known, but I know its abnormal
@Miss Lydia yes I have tried probiitics and electrolytes, it doesn't seem to make a difference but I am looking for instant results, maybe I should give them the probiotics for 7-10 days and see what happens.
It was JoJo at first and yesterday right in front of me he pooped normal, then I watched charlie poo and hers was bad. When I went down this morning, the basement was a mess and smell. Under their "bed" I have white pet training pads so I see it very good, and it was black liquid, smelly as can be. I'm assuming it came from charlie since I witnessed it yesterday. The garlic and eggs must have worked for JoJo so I will start that again but the garlic makes their droppings smell too! Also, along with the garlic and eggs for breakfast I was putting probiotics and electrolytes in their night drinking water. In their feed, I added the diatomaceous earth. And in their huge bin if drinking water I added ACV. I can't afford the tylan, it us over $70, I have a lot going on right now. We are looking for a new house, new car, I have my 18 month old daughter and just found out another baby on the way!!!![]()
thanks for all the advice, yes they are usually outside all day and now that you mention it, I don't think their poo was that dark until they started eating dirt and stuff. I must got back fromTSC and they were all out of probiotics so I'll have to wait, or can I get probiotics for kids or some other kind to use? And I never thought about catching something from them, I wash my hands constantly with antibacterial soap when I'm with them but I will grab gloves at my next doctor visit! Now don't get discouraged. so many things going on in your life right now. No need to use DE other than putting some in your feed can to keep feed fresher it really doesn't do much.
I'd do this and this is just my opinion I'd stop all but Probiotics and ACV. put the probiotics in thier water bucket and do for 1 full week Put ACV into another water bucket, if yours are like mine they use multiple buckets so give them one of each and watch to make sure they are using both if not then just do the probiotics first then the ACV. I do use garlic granules but in my FF.
When I had a couple hens with less that normal poo I mixed probiotics into some yogurt and feed it too them every other night for a week cleared what ever it was up, they free range so no telling what they eat. Have never been able to get my ducks or geese to eat yogurt so I put the probiotics into their drinking water for a week . Don't let the bucket sit in the sun though they will get mildew inside so I make sure to scrub them out every night with some white vinegar before filling again. Now they get plain greek yogurt 1X a week with probiotics in it.
Are you worried about catching something from your ducks now that your pregnant? be sure to wear disposable gloves when cleaning up after them.
Not much you can catch but I thought I remembered you saying your dh was worried about your dd catching something so figured maybe he had said something about you also. Salmonella is something to always be careful of but sounds like you are doing the hand washing which is important whether we're pregnant or not.thanks for all the advice, yes they are usually outside all day and now that you mention it, I don't think their poo was that dark until they started eating dirt and stuff. I tried for better pictures but my phone was being stupid. Are their wings supposed to cross? Like the opposite of angel wing.
