Those geese birds that were once recently goslings are extremely cute. Please keep posting pics of them here. Look at the top view of their webs against the grass.
(I am odd)
he's about 12 weeks old, I didn't know about the niacin, how much should they be getting?
they just have free range of the yard, no fences, everyone in my neighborhood is pretty good at keeping their pets on their property, as soon as I move the toddler gate in the morning to feed they go right to the door to go outside. I worry about a couple stray cats even though I've never seen them, only heard them at night. My dh is convinced my ducks are too big and would defend themselves yet I think otherwise. What is your opinion on duck diapers? I'm undecided, the dh thinks its cruel and they would hate it.First do you have them inside a fence duckies? in summer preds can still snatch our babies but in winter when their normal food supply is hibernating boy they will be looking for an easy meal.
Yes mine come out in winter even when it is snowing and bitter cold. They have down under their feathers. and they mostly lay on their legs and feet to keep them warm. I have put up wind breaks for everyone to get behind and most use them and their doors to their houses are open but even on really bitter days they choose to stay outside.
Your not bugging me at all. If yours have access to their house they may choose to stay in on really cold days I'd give them the option .Every duck is different.
Either 100 to 150 megs of plain niacin [hard to find] but maybe GNC or Brewers yeast or Nutritional yeast flakes and use the formula Debs Flock rec that is the amount for food. This is rec from Storey's Guide to Raising DucksOh yes, can you try to get this done as soon as possible? I'll tag some others that know more about Niacin tablets. I buy brewers yeast, which contains Niacin, in powder form. I add one tablespoon per one cup of food. Chickens don't need as much so it isn't in the typical food. I get my brewers yeast on Amazon because my local GNC stores quit carrying it. There are other options that I'm sure others will share.

I agree I have only used Brewers yeast too. for the reason you mentioned.@ freakshow5 I would rec brewers years. I've used both niacin tabs and the brewers yeast. I think brewers yeast works better bc when you dissolve the tabs in water, they splash and make such a mess with water, I don't think they are getting enough but that's my opinion
Stray cats could pose a threat to young ducklings but I don't think they would mess with larger birds, But i sure wouldn't want to take the chance of everyone in the neighborhood keeping their animals on their property it can happen in a flash, and what about the other predators of the wild kind. They are every where and ducks have no way of protecting themselves at all.they just have free range of the yard, no fences, everyone in my neighborhood is pretty good at keeping their pets on their property, as soon as I move the toddler gate in the morning to feed they go right to the door to go outside.
