Pekin Duck Club!

Ah, yes, she is putting the moves on him, I think is the expression.

I would say within a month to expect an egg.

Courting. That's the duck way of saying, "Want to come to my place for dinner?"

Yay!!! I've been so anxious to get eggs from her!
I have no other ducks laying and next broody gets her eggs to hatch :)
Thank you all for the info, I couldn't tell what was going on for sure.
Hopefully it doesn't scare my muscovy drake and he figures it out

How did that happen? After the picture, what were their behaviors? Wanna scoop 'n squeeze. Cute.

Ahhhhh!!!!!!! And then my grandpap called yelling at me today to get rid of JoJo bc some guy at my dad's work told him that ducks are the most diseased animal ever!!! And basically by having JoJo, my toddler and newborn are gonna get horribly sick and could die! I hate ppl who don't know what they are talking about. Ducks aren't walking diseases, are they???? Now I'm freaking out bc my whole family is screaming at me!!!! Great way to start my day!!!!!!!

No, it's not true. The guy may have been talking about wild ducks, or he may have been talking just to hear himself talk. Most maladies that can effect domestic ducks aren't even communicable to humans. A lot of us on BYC have had domestic ducks for many, many years with no ill effects at all.

no no no. So many folks here have ducks and little kids. My coworker has 4 young kids and 4 ducks and no child has ever gotten sick bcuz of the ducks. You are a careful Mom. Keep JoJo. It would be devastating for you, Ryleigh and him to be separated.

They do alright if I'm there for the most part. The only one who was chased was me! Henry decided I was his target. Lol :)

So my 4 month old pekin girl goes up to my muscovy drake.
She does this weird head bobbing and fast quacking.
Is she trying to court him or does it sound like aggression? She doesn't bite or peck. She has pecked the muscovy hen and established dominance.
Curious if this means she's going to start laying soon
mine have started doing that too, but mine do it towards my mix hen while getting between her and my rouen drake... they are close to laying, my mix is not yet, I think they're trying to get him all to themselves...?
