Pekin Duck Club!

I wish I could save this posting! I will make a mental note as to what page were on! Thanks, I will check with a feed store in Lancaster to see is they carry this. I know TSC doesn't but I'll make some calls!
Again Thanks.

I also want to Thank all the people w/ their ways of taming the ducks as mine could use the help!
Could you make a list as to what is needed to buy to do this. What is the Mother? And what are you adding the water to?

Ya, Carrie, they love to eat peas out of my hand. It feels weird. It was easy until the chooks discovered they like them as well, now I'm the pied piper fending off the girls whenever I go in the coop. The dorks usually stick together behind a big Tupperware thingy in the coop. It rained last night and they bolted out into the run while the girls cowered inside

Since I buried the 'pool' I'm gonna have to figure out some way to clean it without making an even bigger mess. It's rather heavy when full of water but I know a good engineer

Moved mine outside last weekend. They seem to be adjusting fine. Of course all they have access to is the pen since we don't have our "Bird Yard" fenced yet. Broken irrigation has set us behind schedule. I cannot wait until I can let them roam around their yard freely. Here's some pics of the pen (and them)

My kids and I dug a hole at one end of the pen and buried a big Rubbermaid bin 3/4 of the up for a temporary swim hole. We surrounded it with gravel. We placed an upside down terra cotta pot in the pool with a cement slab on top of it for a resting platform in the water and so it's easier to get out of the pool. At night or when we won't be able to check often we place a board over the pool for safety reasons. They love when we come to take the board off in the heat of the afternoon so they can swim :) See:

We figure it'll work for now until we get their yard fenced and their real pond (kiddie pool) in. The pen is wrapped tighter than FT Knox with poultry netting to keep predators out and the pen is sitting on tough cattle panel type wire to keep foxes from digging under. Ontop of the wire (for comfort of little duck feet we have canvas tarp coveted in leaves, dirt and the gravel around the pool. :)

I took the little Pekins to the pond for the first time today. ....much fun was had!!! ....please excuse the Rouens....

I was going to bring the bigger ones down later, but they were sad...lol...so I went and got them.

There were so many plants and bugs to eat, they all kinda ignored me...

. I was on the bank poutin', kinda tossin' sticks, all alone...thinkin' how I was going to word the free ducks to a goo....any home that would take them add....lol.

I left them down there to go finish up some other chores. When they realized I wasn't there any more...they came running...and I was happy...

...lol.

Those pictures are wonderful! I wish I had a pond like that. I have the property for it but the climate is too dry to make it worth while. Mine just use kiddie pools that we can dump to prevent mosquito larvae near the house. Your birds look like they were having a great time!
