Hello to our new members and our current members. I have been dealing with medical issues and have been unable to make a new members list. I am working on that as we speak. My 3 yr. old Pekin duck is a house pet. I have her in a hutch in the front room with me during the day and outside when I am outside during the day. She hates it if she cannot see me and hear me. In her hutch, she has just shredded up newspaper. It is cheap, easy to clean up, won't hurt her if she eats it, and absorbs the set stuff and the smell both.

At night, she sleeps in a metal dog crate next to my bed. I have washable dog pads in her crate. They are very absorbent and somewhat leak-proof on the bottom. I have a couple of dozen of these that I rinse, wash and reuse. They last a long time and I still have the original ones that I purchased and have not had to replace any of them.

The only problem I have had is that my darling Peck, seems to have jet propelled poop. I have to keep plastic up the wall and surrounding the area because of how far it can 'shoot'. LOL

I am on the list for Fat Albert(a) but I have another Pekin named Miss Daisy. Hope they are both female ( I am just guessing at this point) Hope you feel better.

When we built their house we put a small ramp going up to the door and the ducks will not use it. Every night we go out and pick up the ducks and stick them in their house. They have been in their pen now for 2 1/2 weeks. Will they eventually go in on their own??

How high is the ramp ? Ducks are not good climbers.
