Hello Pekin lovers!

My Pekin are in their coop right now. They stayed in all in Thursday. I tried to let them out Friday. They went a few yards in the path in the snow I cleared, sat down & boycotted. I put them away again.

They went out to play Sat. & Sunday. They r in all day & night today & tomorrow. It is extremely cold with the wind chill. They have tarps over their coop like a tent. We have a heater in a metal "cage" outside their coop but away from the tarps. It makes a warm air environment around them.

They have food & got thawed & warmed up (frozen) peas earlier. They had visits with warm fresh water swapouts during the day & evening.

I turned up the heater thermostat a smidge cuz the windchill is so brutal tonight.

The ducks (girls) r loud. The drakes (boys) r quiet. I call it a "whisper quack". I love my Pekin, so their quacks r like music to my ears. If u have close neighbors, it might not seem like music to their ears.

Be sure to get way more girls than boys. I took in unsexed Khaki ducklings. When they grew, there were too many boys & not enough girls. The boys mounted any available FEMALE OR MALE whether they wanted to participate or not.

The first pick has all of my babies. The brown one, is a full blooded Saxon, her name is Diamond, named after the white ring around her name. The Grey and white is Diamond's daughter, Louca. Then the two drakes we recently got. The Pekin, is Curly. The black and white one is Moe. (If I get another pair, the male will be named Larry. ^^)

The second pic is Curly and Diamond relaxing their sore cold feet in a mildly warm bath, since it's been really cold and snowy here in Oklahoma.

Nice crew! Just a little caution . . . watch those boys. Sometimes they team up on a girl during mating season and can hurt or kill her. It does not always happen, but I cannot keep myself from warning you. I pray that peace reigns in your flock.

Denver Ducky you have they most precious duck seen her on fb I could just cuddle her she so cute. I have 3 Pekins 10 mons drakes yes 3 drakes got them some hens lord that's when the troubles began but we r dealing. They are our first and have brought a real joy to our lives. Aflac James, Bitsy Lewis, and Hermen Wayne.

She is such a sweetie, isn't she?? I like her, too. And glad you are enjoying your three guys. Seems when there's a mix of drakes and ducks, things can get interesting. I have a buff drake, 3 buff ducks and 9 runner ducks. One boy and twelve girls. Ought to be heaven. Uh uh. Some of my runner girls are little amazons. sigh. But right now things are fairly peaceful.
