Pekin Duck Club!

Asked a question earlier and got no reply so i have a 2 year old Pekin duck and 2 males and I get eggs and I've been hatching eggs for almost 3 months and my parents want me to stop putting eggs in so i said well can I let her hatch and they said yes so i looked it up and it says that they will sit until a couple days before they hatch then leave and they won't hatch so i wanted to know if it was safe to let her do thst or just eat the eggs

My Pekin has a nasty looking eye. I think it's just infected for some reason but not 100% sure. We rinsed it in saline solution and dabbed some Vetericyn Ophthalmic Eye Gel on it. It looks way worse tonight than it did this morning.

Is there anything else I should be doing for her?

I don't know from experience, but I've heard Pekins are not good at brooding eggs. They tend to lay me and leave em

I just purchased my first duck we now have a flock of 3 chicks and one pekin, I am so excited to raise these guys with my kids, the duck Howard is only a few days old and the chick are 3 weeks old they all seem to be getting along great. Please add me to the group.

I have one that is sitting on a nest right now eggs are dew to start cracking in a couple of days . Soooo excited, anyway this is her first time but she has been on them the entire time just comming off long enough to eat and swim then back she goes. I have noticed that she is a bit careless and tends to step all over the eggs and a lot are getting broke :( , not sure what the problem is there but we will see if we get any babies. I have candled the eggs and they are fertilized. I have found some eggs out in the middle of the duck yard quite a ways away from the nest t as ht were broken open w a baby duck inside have aldo found empty eggs as well. Not sure how they are getting so far from the nest but we will see wh a t happens . She has 6 eggs left in her nest and 2 of them are turning black so they will have to be removed but we will see in a few dsys what happens.

The FFA kids out at the school have one in the barn and she just hatched hers out a couple if days ago and all went well.

Hi & welcome! I'm a newb at raising chicks & ducks. I have 2 pekins (almost 2 mo old) that live with 6 chickens (same age as ducks). I've been told that ducks can't live on their own (not sure if that means only 1 duck on its own or 1 duck among a flock of other poultry)? TSC didn't give me a choice & minimum purchase was 2 ducks. Does anyone else know about having just on duck? I'm curious to know should anything happen to one of mine & also ... Is it "ok" to introduce a new baby duck to adult ducks or do you have to go through the same "slow introduction phase" like you do with chickens?

I started out w just 1 and decided to get a 2nd cause she was very needy and wanted me out there w her all the time and I did not have time for that . She would just quack and quack all the time and it was like she was screaming lol but as soon as I got her a friend all was quiet and my neighborhood was happy again.

2 pekins will do just fine together, they do need to have one of their own kind to live happily among the flock and you have that having 2. And yes introducing ducklings to adults has to be done slowly just as you do with chickens.

Make sure that she also has a bucket to wash her head in. I would add a splash of APple Cider Vinegar to the water. Keep doing what you're doing, hope it improves!
