So my year and a half old female pekin duck has been picking at the part underneath the belly that has a bone on the pekin, almost like a sternum. Well, it is all scabbed up and it seems the picking hasen't stopped. I don't know what it could be? the vet said maybe an irritation and put her on antibiotics, but she's still picking. Any ideas??? please. Her scabbing is getting really bad. I don't know what it could be. :(
 
I would take a big loose sock, cut the top off for her neck and ditto the sides for her wings, and see if covering the area for a week or so doesn't reduce her picking and scabbing. Have you done any research on the Internet to see if you can get some ideas on what is causing the irritation? Something that would reduce the itching and irritation would also be helpful for her, applied first and then the large sock slipped on.

I would also dab a tiny bit of either coconut oil or olive oil on the spot - it will make her feathers in that area a little oily, but temporarily, to see if those soothe the area. Both have mild anti fungal properties, and can help the skin. Perhaps just a drop of vitamin E mixed in will also help - that's good for the skin and not harmful to ducks.
