Our ducks were named for the Willie Nelson song "Pancho & Lefty". We assumed both ducklings were male, so when we found out Pancho was a female, it was changed to Poncha. I'm also a fan of Vegas legend "Lefty" Rosenthal, so it was a great fit.

I love him. He is so cute sitting on your arm like that. Is he heavy? He needs a hug.
he should get hugs. It's his fault he's so cute even tho he thinks he's a falconLefty isn't too heavy. He'd rather stand on your arm than be held. He gets hugs regardless.
I love the names. Launchpad is awesome. They are adorable, the ducks. Can you pet Darkwing even though she's shy? Here are our two, Darkwing and Launchpad. Launch is the drake in front, Darkwing is a little more people-shy.

different personalities. That's neat. And I would have to pet and hug mine too if I had some. Couldn't imagine being in their presence and not touching them cuz they are so cute.Yeah, its more that sh'd rather not be bothered. She's fine if she's being held, but she's a little standoffish. Launch likes getting petted.
Thank you, I will have to give this a try! I am taking her to the vet again soon, so maybe I can give my vet some of these ideas and she can help!I would also dab a tiny bit of either coconut oil or olive oil on the spot - it will make her feathers in that area a little oily, but temporarily, to see if those soothe the area. Both have mild anti fungal properties, and can help the skin. Perhaps just a drop of vitamin E mixed in will also help - that's good for the skin and not harmful to ducks.
You Rock. Your post is not long at all. It was fun reading. Your ducks Waffles and Potato are soooo cute. Love their names and he face is adorable and so is her pigeon toed walk. Keep the stories and pix coming.Hey all! This is my pretty pekin gal, Waffles. I'm unclear about the details, but I was told that she's two or three years old, and was raised as a little girl's pet. I'm not sure how, but she ended up at my fiance's aunt's house, along with another mallard. They lived in a small circle of chicken wire with a barrel for shelter. I've always wanted to have a duck, and my fiance's aunt didn't want to keep them over the winter, so we took her and the mallard, Potato, in last fall. They were nervous and unused to human contact when we got them, but I've been working on making friends with them. Waffles is now all too eager to gobble up her favorite treats from your hand, and sometimes mistakes your fingers for mealworms! She's taught me a lot about raising ducks, especially how amusing they can be.Showing off that pretty face. She's a ham for the camera.
It took a couple weeks, but they finally figured out what the swimming pool is for. Waffles especially likes to make a huge mess in it.
Here she is in all her pigeon-toed glory. It makes for a comical swaggering walk, but that doesn't stop her from getting to where she's going!
Hanging out with Potato.
These pictures are kind of old, but I haven't been able to get any recent ones because, as it turns out, they absolutely abhor snow. Everything I've read says ducks don't give two quacks about snow, but these two refuse to be outside if it's on the ground. They're certainly quirky little things! I love having these ducks so much that I decided to extend our flock and ordered some ducklings online, and they're set to arrive in mid February. I seriously cannot wait! Sorry for the long post! ~PotatoWaffles
