Pekin Duck Club!

I have 2 Pekin Ducks, 1 male and 1 female. They are just over a year old. I have not had any eggs out of them yet. How long before they start laying?

Also, he is constantly mating and going after her to where her neck is almost raw. I feel bad for her. Should I get another female and if so, do they have to be a certain age? I'm worried if I get a couple more babies. That the older ones would attack them.
Try getting a few more girls that are around the same age and introduce them slowly to prevent any fights. This worked with my chickens, so I think it should work for ducks too...

I'm a newbie, but from reading other people's posts I would suggest checking around your yard. Make sure she's not laying somewhere hidden like under a bush. Ducks are known to try to hide their eggs. If that's not the case than I don't know what the problem could be. Nutrition maybe?
As far as the mating, I would say if you're able to get another female or 2 go for it! I would introduce the younger ones slowly. Always supervised visits until you're confident that the older ones aren't showing any signs of aggression. I hope that helps a little.

Does anyone have any pictures of your pekin duck's size compared to a chicken? I was wondering how big they are compared to chickens...

Help! My dog just bit my pekin duck in the beak. I cleaned it up with warm water and called the vet and they told me to keep an eye on it. Any others have this happen before. Lucky my dog is small but she did make her beak bleed.

Just keep the wound clean and watch how she heals. There's always a possibility of an infection occurring from bacteria in canine saliva but since you were there when it happened and acted quickly, I would be surprised if anything develops. :) What a good duck mama you are!

If you're still worried, flush it with warm salty water. That will help with swelling and keep it sterile.

I have 2 silkies, 2 easter eggers, a bantam cochin, a barred rock, and a polish. I just got 2 pekin ducklings so I was wondering if they would be giant compared to all of the chickens or only slightly bigger.

They will be significantly larger than most of those. Especially the silkies and bantam Cochin. The barred rock should be the closest in size as they get to be about 8 pounds. Pekins get to be about 10-12 pounds.
