Pekin Duck Club!

This has all been quite the experience!!! I'm having a lot of fun though. My husband even is enjoying it! He just bought me an incubator, sooooo....... And one of Peeps babies, is on a clutch of 9 right now. Laid the 9th one yesterday!!! What's your plan for trying to catch this guinea....???

I can imagine having babies hatch must be great fun! So is Peep's baby sitting on mixed eggs?

LOL...no idea since the thing flies. It's favorite spot is high in a cedar tree near my bedroom window. I suppose I'll start leaving food out and figure out it's pattern so I can get close enough to lure it with treats. It seems like if I get the guinea to trust me, I'll be able to manage it somehow. That's just based on the very limited time I've spent with my neighbor's guinea so who knows?

yup. Lola is sitting on pekin/ call x pekin... I had a male pekin visit while my neighbors were on vacation. I also have 5, 8 week old Cayuga/Swedish blue mixes and two mallards 7 weeks old.... Those are the little ones that are still babysat by everyone else! Good luck with the guinea!! Maybe some long rain wild rice boiled and a net...?? That's what my neighbors use as a treat for theirs.

i have a question about my two ducks i cant seem to get them to go into the pond ive been making its finished for the most part ill have pics of it up later but my question is how do i get them to go in the water ?

I would love it if you posted pics here and personally I don't mind.  I think the goslings are cute and now that I have seen what they look like as adults, they are beautiful.  The Pekins hissing is cute you have to admit and I do agree with you there.  I am glad you have a set up that allows separation of your ducks and geese during breeding season.   would the geese as males try to mate with the Pekin girl or do they know the difference in species?
From what I've gathered in the pilgrim thread and reading, they will try to mate anything with wings! So, unfortunately yes. :(

So much cuteness here!

  thanks for sharing & welcome to the group!

@quakingtons
 very sorry for your loss!!  I would definitely try adding an adult duck for company.

@JLynnsDuckies
 please do share geese pics here!  otherwise, I wouldn't know where to find them.  ;)   I spend all my time on the duck threads.
Since it seems most don't seem to mind, I will defiantly do that! Hopefully I can get some good pics at some point today and share. It's hard though, I move and those boys are right on my feet! It melts my heart!

You can try herding them there or use the crude method...catch them and put them in the pond a couple of times, then you leave them alone and observe how they handle it.

They really don't need the pond , and it's kinda less mud/mess if they don't use the pond. I only put one out for 2-3 days twice a month..

Also if it's a real pond your going to need a very over sized pre filter before your main filter, and uv filter to keep the water from going bad..

And rember they like to spit there food in the water so expect the food waist to increase ..

I wish my ducks did not like my pond or I would let them Rome my yard more often , but if they get in my pond I get slimy algae outbreaks , and nitrite spikes from the ducks.. Also I thank them may be eating my smaller fish and freshwater shrimp.
