Pekin Duck Club!

So it's just a mating thing? I really need to get them a female lol! Thanks
On the serious side, one girl and two boys could be fatal for the girl. If you want females, there need to be a few girls per boy. And even so, drakes can sometimes pick on one female and she needs to be separated. It just can turn into x-rated middle school if you know what I mean. That's worst case. Often, things work out fine.

But we humans need to know, going in, we may need to intervene quite a bit to keep everyone safe.

I used to think safe and happy. Now I just think safe. Because Bean is not happy when he cannot ravage Romy. Too bad for Bean.

I have a 7 month old. His brother was killed by a coyote. So it's him 5 chickens and 3 Muscovy ducklings. The problem is my Pekin keeps trying to mount my chickens. When he does so he's pulling their feathers out. Does he need a mate?

Boy does he ever and get him separate from your hens or he'll end up killing them ducks and chickens are not made anatomically to breed it's a death sentence for your hens. Don't put him in with the ducklings either they need to be adult size or at least breeding age. 4-5 month old before around a hormonal drake.

We added cement slabs around Hazel and Henry's pool this morning in an attempt to combat the horrible slippery mud in that part of the pen. I know it's not the greatest for their feet, so we only did it around the pool area. They were also digging deep holes. We'll see how it goes...

Nice job there.

I got some oyster shell for Hazel today. She wants nothing to do with it. Picky little thing. We also bought a bag a dried mealworms. I figured they would love them. They stuck their noses in the air and walked away. The geese stepped on theirs and the calls ate around them. Those things are $4.99 for a little bag! I'm going to stick to peas and lettuce, it's cheaper.

Only my female geese love the meal worms my ganders stick their noses up at them. but my goodness my ducks and chickens mob me when I come out with meal worms for snack time.Try putting the mealworms in their feed they may get a taste for them that way. But they really are expensive I buy 44 lbs at a time.
