Pekin Duck Club!

I don't see why not.. the last three did lol Sometimes I get overloaded with males though which can start trouble, and send some off to the farms of other friends. We've never taken in an animal and sent it to the freezer. I wouldn't be against raising meat ducks (or chickens) on principle, but they would be animals we specifically bred for that purpose - never our, or someone else's, pets. :)

Hiya everybody! I have a pekin question! LOL (you're shocked right?)

I picked up two pekins today (we take in a lot of unwanted animals). Owner didn't know if they were male or female. I asked on the phone if they had curly tails (sex feathers) - he said yes. OK, so I go expecting boys. I get there and no sex feathers. Oh cool... girls! Then I hear them quack. They sound more like boys...(unless they really haven't gotten going yet... they did just get here) He said he hasn't gotten any eggs from them, but then said something was stealing eggs from his pen. So, they sound like boys, no sex feather and we don't know about eggs. Oh and one more thing - the bills are different colors. One is definitely much lighter than the other. He says they are about 18 months old. Working on uploading some photos although I don't have many yet.

Please share any insight you might have? Although he had a human convenient set up, it wasn't very duck friendly. I don't know what they were eating and if they were getting sufficient light for laying... perhaps that's a big factor?
If you can share what they sound like - drake feathers fall out sometimes, too.

I know what you mean about too many drakes, if they could all just learn to live together. lol

Reading your BIO makes me want to come visit.

Amiga, I will try and video them tomorrow for quacks. Uploading their butts and bills now lol

Miss Lydia, that's so very sweet of you. It's very peaceful here, but I'm a bit of a hermit. haha You sound like you have a similar set up our there. Western NC is gorgeous :)

I would love to be able to do a rescue like you. just don't have enough flat ground for buildings living in the mountains, and I am a bit of a hermit too. lol

Amiga is right they may have just finished molt and haven't got their curl back yet.

I'd say the second is probably a drake, first one - I dunno.

Proud of you for caring. Cayugas are gorgeous - we adopted a rescue a couple of months ago.

Please keep us in the loop - those Pekins are so big and plush!
