Pekin Duck Club!

I agree with Motorcycle Chick, the ducks will seek shelter if they need it. They have a nice down coat to help keep them warm. If the lake is not freezing over then it may be warmer on the water vs the air temps on the land.

You are doing fine. Everyone can see what you posted.
The new ducks will decide whether or not to get out of the cold. It does no good to worry beyond that. You are offering shelter. They will decide if they need it.[/quote I do not have a shelter for them right now.I need ideas on that too? The one I did have for two years she will have nothing to do with so I removed it. It would be too small for 4 of them now and the fact that they won't come on land in the winter poses a problem also

@duckdynasty21 I see some potential problems predators. Big Problem here as most places in the USA. if they are out they are vunerable and their main prey is down some hole for the winter which makes our flocks easy targets if not locked up at night. You have shelter for them that can be closed up at night for protection? if so start putting feed close to it. You could even put up temporary fencing on all side and use fence for gate too. What would be ideal would be to get them in the habit of coming for their last meal of the day close by the shelter, once inside close the gate and use your arms and walk behind them right into the shelter with nice soft shaving to snuggle down into. Ducks herd pretty easy and if you walk slow learn real fast what you want. I would lose sleep too worrying about their safety and warmth, yes ducks have down but need to be able to get out of extreme weather blowing wind rain and snow,. Now food or water inside their shelter and take up after they are locked in safe so preds aren't tempted.
