Pekin Duck Club!

I am new to learning and hatching Pekin ducklings and have lots of questions if added to the group. Attached is my rescue Pekin named Ralphy

Cute!!
Ask away!

@MotorcycleChick

How can I tell if my Pekin is going to sit, she has been laying since last year and now laying in same place everyday. She has made a nest and even covered a few of them. We usually take the eggs away every few days but since spring is here I want ducklings. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

New John Deer inspired duck house with a loft. They love it!

Great coop!
Pekins aren't known for being broody. If she is though (because it can happen. A woman is a woman) she will sit her tush down, and not get up. She will relieve herself once a day (a big pile of nasty smelling stuff!) and eat. She may be up for 20-45 minutes. It isn't necessary for her to peck at you or growl to be broody. I have had hens that never did that, and I have been attacked by a non-broody for trying to get her egg.
Good luck! I am hoping she will brood for you!

@Graygray71If I'm coming off as a jerk, I apologize. In my head, I am being funny. I hadn't realized that I had been smart akecky to both of your questions. That seems like a bit much. So again, I do apologize if I sounded like I was being mean. If I sounded funny though, yay! Mission accomplished!

They think that you are a predator bird coming at them from above. Until you can get them at floor level, like in the coop with heat, they will carry on
Of course, you can take them out and put them on the floor in the bathroom or something with you sitting there. Then you should be able to pick them up without complaint.

Thank you! I put one in the bathroom with me and got on her level and she warmed up to me. She started cuddling with me and nibbling on my hair and cheek. Such an improvement. I'll keep doing this with each duckling.

Hi new to ducks one 2-3 week old pekin and a 2 day old Cayuga girl. Unsure of Pekins sex. Just trying to get them to get along. Pekin seems to nip at little Cayuga.
