Pekin Duck Club!

When I got to put me.shivers (new name the kods named him) should I act as if he is a new duck and put him in a temp. Home for a few days before letting him in with the flock? Or will they recoginize him? I do think he has caught a case of the bumble foot, so im going back to the store today to get medicine for that...

These are my four babies the black /gray ones are my silver Welch harlequins they are 4 weeks old yesterday. My yellow ones are my pekins they are 3 weeks old now They are the best thing that has happened to my family we love them so much.

These are my new chicks!! There's seven so far.
I've had my pekin's for about a year. They were fully grown when I got them but not breeding age. I rescued them from a trailer park, the man who bought them as ducklings got them for his daughter and then had a stroke. With no one to care for them the neighbors contacted me and I was happy for the challange. I homeschool so it's an amazing experience for the kids.
I separated them when I figured out they weren't all girls but one of my males didn't have the flipped tail feather so he spent a bit of time with the girls. I thought her quack sounded funny, lol. One of the ladies got all...grouchy one afternoon and took to nesting. I checked her nest and she had a bunch of eggs, I collected them all and candled. They all had veins! I panicked, put them all back and ran to the feed store. They talked me down.
I decided to take the chicks away as soon as they're fluffed because of the other ducks and that I live in Florida, there are so many predatory birds we got nervous.
They're doing great!! Growing so much, chirping and running and swimming. They're really friendly, they all want to sit in your lap. I'm proud of myslef. Best duck Gramma ever.

You have some beautiful babies. I also have Pekins and Welsh. I did not know the Welsh came in black and grey. Where did you get yours? Here are some of mine- Pekins with a Blk Sweedish and the Welsh Harlequins

Those are taken when 2 days old. They are 2 weeks now.

My mind is swirling, trying to grasp what you mean by several things;
Why did you separate everyone just because they were boys and girls? Why not just take extra boys away?
Why do you call ducklings "chicks"?
Where are they that you have to take ducklings away once they're fluffy? Your ducks should have a secure place to sleep every single night without worry of predators. A mama duck will always take care of her young. The other ducks are not an issue.

Our the males attaching the baby's then yes you take away males away from baby and momma. You put a divider in between . So males can see baby's and momma but can't hurt baby's . Which I am told. Unless you incubated them. Then they would live in a brooder away from the flock to stay warm and safe.

I'm in Oregon and got them from a lady down the street from me when they were 24 hours old I love them so much

They're in a secure place to sleep, the duck house (it use to be a wooden shed but we renovated it for the ducks) has only female ducks in it, the males have already been separated in their own pen. It's the other females that are the problem. I took the ducklings after finding the two I left out there dead, one looked squished.I notice when the mother is off the nest for any reason they run right in there. I just went out there and told them they shouldn't be a problem, I don't think they agree with you. It's not a big deal to take the ducklings away, the mother doesn't seem to care and they wouldn't even have known her had I incubated. The chicks are safely in a brooder where I know nothing will happen to them. I don't think I had a reason for calling them chicks, I didn't realize we were playing semantics. I figured you guys would get it.
I never wanted them to breed. It's not our intention to bring any more ducks into the world. They're done, I'd have the males neutered if I could. It was accidental, it's our first time owning ducks, they were even able to breed. I didn't know one of the "girls" was a him. They have to stay separated, I'm never doing this again.

They are really cute at this stage. The beginnings of the mess. But don't you just love them. Be sure to keep the pictures coming. We all love ling pics.
