So we just switched their food to Dumor chick starter and still giving them niacin. Hopefully this will make a difference. I was concerned with the other food as it wasn't a starter food.
I am almost certain your duckling has slipped tendons, and it's common to larger-breed ducklings, like Pekins. YOU MUST have the tendon slid back into place and wrapped/taped for support, IMMEDIATELY, or else this condition will be permanent and your duck will never walk. Slipped tendons can only be repaired very soon after the slip, so time is of the essence. Since it has been a week, you need to hurry! Do you have an avian vet near you? Or a vet school?
Slipped Tendon!!! Oh NO.....I figured it was the niacin thing since his feet are bowed in and now another one is starting to do the same thing. How can I tell if its a slipped tendon? I have called all the vets around here and no one will help me.
The feet and toes will indeed turn in with slipped tendon. If you can't find an avian vet or local vet school, try calling any local duck breeders. Failing that, do a search online for slipped tendons to try to find info on resetting the tendon yourself. Do you have newspaper for bedding, or plastic (like tupperware) beneath shavings for bedding? Any slippery surface will cause this condition...given the sudden onset, it seems certain that it's slipped tendons. You need to locate someone to reset and tape the tendons IMMEDIATELY, else they won't be treatable.
Try contacting featheredfriendsforever.org (706-556-2424) . They are a parrot rescue group in Harlem, GA but they may be able to give you the name of an avian veterianarian who can help your ducklings. Also, try this woman who is listed as a duck rescue in Georgia (JacqueIyn Parton at 770-888-3987). I hope this helps!
