Pekin hatching her own eggs

Now that I have a few more females taking away some of his attention she don't hide any more but it was so funny, I would not see her with Howard the Duck and holler DAISY and she would holler back at me and let me know where she was hiding at, I love Hosta and have a bunch. She would let me know where she was at but still would not come out of hiding unless I had food.

I do not know when you put up your post so I hope this will be helpful.
Just like you said, leave her alone let nature take it's coarse if you move her she may stop setting. Be very careful once the little ones are hatched.
All ducks and geese are very protective and will attack with enough force to brake arms.
If you have a dog or cat, take care to keep it away from the flock as they will see it as a predator, even if it has been around them all the time the flock has been together.
Their only thought is to protect the babies.
Hope it was helpful.

I was told it is very difficult for Pekins to hatch their own eggs. My dear girl was so very broody, and build her nest in my flower bed. I was close to getting rid of the eggs, some of them were clearly bad. I was out and about shopping today when my son called me. MOM!!! Willy has a baby!!! Sure enough, one of those eggs hatched!!! I was shocked!!!

Hi,
just wanted to let everyone know that my pekin has hatched her own and she is teaching the young one to swim clean himself etc. He is 4 days old. I first saw him in her watering tote 6 deep and 3ft long. had to get him out he was cold wrapped it in a towel dried him a little and put him with mom. She has since gone out and swam in her tote and little one has a baking dish that he goes in. It is so much fun watching them. about 3 weeks ago all 4 duck and a goose came to the back step and was raising such a fuss, finally they went to the pond, so I checked her nest and found an eight ft black snake. I don't like killing them but figured he would be back so I did and then took it to the pond to show her I got him. Ever since then she doesn't bother when I check her nest. Started with 10 eggs and hatched one, three still in incubator stage. She is such a good mom cant even think of her not taking care of them, the baby is called hop along by my granddaughter.
My question is how soon can I let her take the little one to the pond? property is completely fenced with mowed lawn all around. the only predators would be maybe hawks. I had the first 3 mailed and kept them isolated for first 5 weeks till their feathers were white. She is always wanting to go to the pond with the rest of them. ?

If you have snapping turtles or large mouth bass they will eat ducklings.. I would wait till ducklings are at least 4 weeks old maybe older if you not sure what's under the water.
@kwalrath Congratulations and Welcome to BYC.
