Pekin Lame Duck

Hi, I have a 5 yr old Pekin duck and I believe he has a broken leg, he cannot walk. This morning I caught my chickens attacking him and it broke my heart. Will placing a splint on his leg help him or is that a selfish thing to do? Any suggestions? Thanks

yo should start by building him a chicken sling, this can be used on ducks too. Heres video on how to make simple one!

Is he walking on it at all? Do you feel any heat or swelling on the leg, can you post pictures, and possibly a video? To post a video you have to click attach files on the bottom of the reply box and select you video. And a splint may help, i've heard of them being made out of popsicle stick, and there was a vet who made on out of a finger splint! This is a video clip of an episode of a vet show where she makes the finger splint into a splint for the turkey! Good luck, Avery

Ok I will try tomorrow to get a video. I have him on the other side of the farm in the horse barn. He isn’t using it at all at this point. He can kind of get in and out of his house to get a little air but then he just scoots his way back in. He’s using his wind to make up for the foot. I feel so bad for him. Sorry it took me so long to reply but it’s hay cutting time here.
