Hi everyone,
I posted a little while ago about these two in questions and the verdict was that they were boys. While they were still quite young at that point (and I am still hopeful for an egg or two!) I dont want to move any of them to a new home unless I absolutely have to. Note - the silkie gets preference here because that was the chook that started it all
. Note they are both around 12 weeks old.
My 'pekin' (according to the pet shop) use to look like a pekin - but now has developed some puffy cheeks - is that a normal thing or do you think it is x with another breed? Also, the waddle and comb dont seem to have grown very much and the colour seems to change from pale pink to deep pink depending on his/her mood. It also has developed some green tinted feathers on the wings and tail, but they seems mostly black until the right light hits them. When it walks, it does not stand very tall and does look 'hen-ish' at this point in its development.
They are both little sweethearts and my daughter and I love them dearly. The 'pekin' is more like a dog than a chook and will come and sit on your lap under your hand for pats (and also to push the silkie off). It is also picking on the silkie quite a bit with hackle? (is that the right word) flaring and pecks to the back of the neck, the silkie's tail has also mysteriously disappeared over the last week. The silkie is a little push over and will let the 4 week old chicks beat it up if I let them.
I really want to keep them both, but if this one is indeed a cockerel with an attitude - I will probably find it a new home now instead of later on once it starts to crow. To be honest I am pretty upset about this and dont want to have to make a decision
.
Any help of advice that you can give me on this would mean the word to me.
