Lol! They outsmart us every time! Once the lake freezes enough they can't feed from it, it should be easier. The pen is the only place, out of water, that their feed is located. Just being patient....

More of my 'guys'. They have been so much fun this year! They follow us around when we're in the boat and come yo us when we call them. We can't catch them any more but they will come right up to us. They've had the 25 acre lake to themselves and have been welcomed whenever the geese come in. I'm curious to see what the geese do on the spring come nesting time!

Beautiful. Geese a territorial but as long as your ducks stay away from nesting sites they should be okay.

that's one thing I'm worried about in the spring. The geese terrorized them at first in the spring, but as they grew and got used to the lake they became the 'residents' and the geese were just passerby's... and they were curious by later in the summer. It was fun watching them accept each other. The geese welcomed them this summer and fall... but the ducks are roosting? sleeping.. on THEIR island. There are enough islands to go around, but the geese have the best ones 'marked' as theirs! We'll see!
I'd LOVE to see our resident 'wood ducks' imprint on our ducks and start feeling safe enough to come out and be seen more often. They are only seen in early summer hanging with the geese. We also have an few American Coots that will show up once in a while.

I can't wait to see what we come up with in the spring, if they will hatch any eggs. If we have problems, I have a friend that has broody hens and an incubator.. we'll use whatever is necessary to hatch what we can! She has all sorts of mixed breed ducks! They are quite interesting!

Many times young hens will lay eggs out on the water. Possibly they are laying but sink to the bottom of the pond.

Seriously!? I never thought about that! I'll have to see what happens when we pen them up for the worst of the winter!
