So…we are also new duck parents. Thank you to all of you that have answered my MANY questions so far.
Next question….
We are in the process of building a coop…keeping them in the house was more challenging that I thought it would be.
Also have a pond, but our yard is not fenced. During the day if, while we are outside, will they wander away from our house, their coop and our pond…..
We have been taking them outside and "training" them to stay in our back yard they were doing much better before. Now they seem brave and are wandering further.
Any suggestions, besides putting up a fence……?

If you don't have a fence especially for their protection then I would not let them wander around unless I was right there to watch. When you finish their house build a nice size run attached to it making sure it is very secure and keep them in it when you can't be outside to watch them. Not only can they wander off but there are all kinds of predators that will take your ducks one by one without you even knowing they have been there till they are gone. Roaming dogs are the worst.

Thanks we were planning on making a large run. I was just curious, I don't want to include our pond in their run…...
