Pellet Gun for predators??

For any one that has a child in the house and has a gun they should have a gun safe. Or at least trigger locks. I grew up with guns and learned to use them early in life. Thanks to my daughter I will have to start locking my guns up again when the new grand baby comes here. With the other 4 grand children, ages 8 to 16, they all have thier own guns here. Each of them know how to use them. Not only have I taught them gun safety, they all have passed both the police and fish & game safet courses. I don't worry about weasles here, just bear and mountian lions. A little different critter. Not wanting to start any battles, but there is no differance between children be it natural or foster. Without the proper training they should NOT be around any gun. I have NEVER known a gun to kill anything unless it was in the hands or a human. Like I have stated before, I go more for over kill and I am never more then a few steps from a fully loaded gun. Most of the time I have one on my person. And doing what you do with foster children you should get a medal or something. Sorry I am not a lot closer or I would take care of the weasle for you.

its just that honestly with the program that i work with (its called the safe passage program...), these kids can be very violent and yes, i have even had a sociopath kid in my house once (he was removed because he confessed to having murder thoughts about my husband and i.., and he is still locked up today...)....there are kids who set fires..etc...kids from lock-up..kids that have been drug addicted.*who will use a gun on you to steal money...*...etc....thats the population i work with.*High risk teens*...sooo...i really have to be careful with what i have here...i will lock up the pellet gun..of course...but...still leary of having a real gun in my house...again,thanks so much for all your wisdom and help as always!..

Suggestion on trapping, maybe already suggested but missed, be sure to put it against a wall, a common path of travel, or where you've seen it running before. 95% of trapping is where you put the trap. That 5% is what's in it. I've caught more coons and possums in a live trap without bait than with! Then again... most were possums... and they may be pretty dumb out here or something.

shotguns are only good IF you dont have to worry about WHERE them 200+ pellets are going. a 22 is 1 bullet you need to "make sure where it goes" BUT if missed, or ricochets, it can and WILL go for a mile. a 22 bullet is 1 of the MOST dangerous bullets,, people consider them like a BB gun, and dont respect it is 1 of the best "killers" out there.
why a pellet gun,, cause of safety, and i can kill anything from dog down to mouse within 45- 50 yards with my cheapo $50 pellet gun.and have pics to prove it.

I have seen a lot of opinions about using/not using pellet guns. I am in south texas, we probably have more guns per capita than anyone. I have a shot gun, deer rifles, a 22 LR semiauto, 357mag pistol, etc. I routinely use a Remington Airmaster77 that I got cheap at walmart for possums and smaller. I would probably not hesitate to plug a dog in the butt with it.

One reason for this is, in our area, there is a prohibition on shooting firearms except in defense of family or property. I consider my chickens my property and would break out the big stuff for a coyote, but I would also probably have to have a conversation with the sheriff afterwards. The airmaster77 with the scope (came with it), is dead on accurate to 25-50 yards. It is inexpensive enough that you can buy one and try it out yourself.

The airmaster77 has a following on line due to its accuracy. Might want to do a goggle search.
