Pen/coop for squab raising...is there a similar site for pigeons only?

I am looking for plans to build a coop for some pigeons, just a few pairs. I am mainly interested in squab, so I am looking at getting one of the larger breeds like Runts or Texan Pioneer or King pigeons. All of the loft plans I find are for homing or racing birds. From what I have found, these larger birds don't fly much, so those flight pens are not appropriate. Is there another site that offers info specifically for utility/squab breeds? What sort of setup do others have? This operation would really be in my backyard in the middle of town, so I'm not looking to do a whole shed type building, just a smaller pen for 3 or 4 of 5 pairs. Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Angus

I did see Yardbird TX's post about squab. Coincidentally, and amazingly luckily, he is local, and he's offered to have me come out and check out his setup anytime. Unfortunately, he has what looks to be a place in the country, with a large building for his pigeons, so it's not exactly applicable to what I plan to be doing. He does sell good birds, so I'll probably get the birds from him, but I was hoping to find plans for a smaller urban/backyard setup. I'll definitely check out pigeons.biz Thanks, truecolorsloft!

If you even MENTION eating pigeons on that site, you will be BANNED

They DO have lots of good info though.

I let my King Pigeons fly, but they seldom go far, and "most" of them come back

Yeah, I figured that out pretty quickly. That site hasn't been too helpful. I have looked around a lot online, and I've just about decided to buy a kid's playhouse and add an outdoor area on where the front porch is. I have seen some people on craigslist who build and sell them pretty cheap. I'm also looking at getting Texan pioneers.

angusb,

Before you build or buy something for the pigeons you should give me a call. Check your private messages. My lofts are not as big as you think, and you can fit the same size loft in a back yard pretty easy. Also even if you are downtown Austin you are still going to have to deal with Raccoons trying to get at your birds. I can show you how to make your loft secure.

Thanks, Joe

there is something called discretion. We eat our birds, but keep that from some people who'd never sell to us otherwise

I don't know if you ever got your loft built,if you didn't try searching rose wood lofts(i think that's it).You should be able to find the plans on pigeon talk. The plan is for a 4x8 loft, that is easy to build.we built one but made it larger.
