Pencilled Turkeys

I hate to revive a dead thread….. but pencilled inheritance is not as well documented as some other aspects of turkey plumage inheritance. I have been seeing Pencilled Narragansett varieties popping up on the inheritance calculator that Austria89 made. How are these birds inheriting the pencilled feather patterning?

Pencilling is only showing in black-winged bronze varieties, therefore, Pencilled Black-Winged Narragansett are a thing. ā˜ŗļø

I had quite a few over the years, also semi-pencilled ones.

A bronze-based Pencilled Narragansett is not possible and shouldn't be shown as a result in the calculator.

There is discussion about the the pencilling gene being a mutation of the black-winged allele, but this is only verifiable by gene analysis.

Pencilling is covered, but you can also ask me directly. Advice is always for free. :D
Well thank you, I was probably just misinterpreting what ā€œpn/pnā€ meant on the calculator. Now I’m tracking that you have to get to a Black winged Narragansett to observe pencilling in that variety.
