Hello friends! After almost a year of no health issues, our sweet Munchie just came up with a ballooned crop out of nowhere! Pretty sure after researching it is PC. Have you ever made a chicken vomit? It’s not fun! So I have questions...
1). Anyone used a crop bra?
2). If no crop bra does the hen just make due? She seems fine, just doing these weird neck stretching moves I’m assuming to help her digestion.
3) Our nosy expert neighbor kept harassing me about putting in oyster shell. Finally I said screw it & put a container in filled up & laying on its side in the run. I feed Layena crumbles & according to the bag I don’t need to do that. I mention this because we had no problems before, & after searching a few threads here it seems like a couple of girls got into trouble with the oyster shell.

What say you BYC flock?

This should clarify your crop disorder questions. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

Oyster shell is always advisable even for hens on layer feed. It's not the same as grit, however. Chickens needs access to non-water soluble granite grit to keep crops and gizzard functioning well.

It's not advisable to vomit a chicken. If they aspirate the liquid being vomited, they can die instantly. Determining a pendulous crop condition requires a few days of crop monitoring. It's discussed in that article.
