Does the black hen in the background look as if she has the 'penguin' posture that I have seen described on here as a symptom of egg binding? She did not live long after this picture was taken.
Thanks.

did you check the crop?
can you remember her eating or other behavior?
was she thin?

it does seem the legs and feet are braced into a penguin type position..but the body isn't as upright as a classic penguin stance.
was she weak?
her eyes look weak, and posture isn't right.

do you know what the droppings looked like?
color and consistency.

sorry for the loss of your hen..
a pretty girl.

Sorry for your loss.....I hope she has a safe journey....cheer up!

My pullet (who looks exactly like your brown chicken! Wow!) also had a penguin posture after eating some guava seeds. It probably got stuck in her throat, but she soon went to normal posture after several minutes. It might be the same case as your chicken, but I'm not sure if this is the case.

Good luck!

Thanks for your sympathy and help folks. She was nothing like as poorly looking as in the thread you found for me Jenski. That poor bird did look bad.
Mine was producing yellow poop like cooked egg yolk and finally yellow pee. She was thin and weak and used to stand around with her eyes closed right from the day I got her. There was clearly something very wrong with her but I did not have the stomach for a post-mortem. She did not swell up so it probably was not eggs going the wrong way. Perhaps it was a liver complaint. I shall never know...but I would have liked to have known.

....Mine was producing yellow poop like cooked egg yolk ....

...that sounds like an internal layer...often goes "septic" and they die quickly of infection (no cure cept surgery (a chicken "hysterectomy")

and finally yellow pee. She was thin and weak and used to stand around with her eyes closed right from the day I got her. There was clearly something very wrong with her but I did not have the stomach for a post-mortem

the yellow pee is indicative of liver failure.
sorry you lost her but next time do not accept such a porrly hen... you bring the rest of your flock in danger when you do.
