I'm updating about my eggbound chicken. She's still alive and just waddels around happily, eating, drinking and I even think laying a lopsided egg now and again. What is the life expectancy of an eggbound hen? It has been almost 2 weeks and her bottom drags the ground and looks bruised. I called a vet but they don't see chickens and I've done the warm sitz bath and even caster oil. She poops fine. I'm going out of town for a week and leaving my daughter to care for the animals. I don't know whether I should put the poor hen down or leave her alone and see what happens. I wanted to do a post mortum exam to determine what was really going on inside. Any advice here?

Did that in the beginning too but 1st time found nothing as far as I could reach, second time seemed like a blockage but no way to get around it. Castor oiled her since and she's passed a couple egg membranes only, no hard shell pieces. Had her separated for a while but she got highly distressed so I let her back with the other hens. I expected to find her dead but she's not dying.

Maybe she'll pull on through by herself then! If she doesn't, can you send me pics of the post-mortem? I'm super curious about it!

I'd like to post of photo of her now, amazing how low she drooped. Do you know how to do that? But, sure. I'll do that.

The easiest way is to put your pic on an image hosting website like photobucket, then photobucket gives you a link to copy down onto your post that will show the picture.

I'll send to your email the pics I just took if you don't mind. I just tried to sign up for photobucket but I won't give personal info like my cell phone # so I can't sign up. Let me know if I can send the pics of my hen to you, just 3 small files.

how long has she been eggbound?

don't give your cell phone number..just skip it..
I know peole who use photobucket who don't have cell phones..
?

She's been eggbound over two weeks now. And I did notice that next time I went to photobucket I was actually registered. I didn't have any more time to mess with it. Maybe I revisit today and see about posting them. Meantime, this morning my hen came out from hiding to stand next to me while I was in front of the coop. I "read her mind" and opened the large coop door and she walked up to it and took a stance of "put me in there". So I lifted her in the coop and she went straight to the egg laying box. She used the ramp yesterday morning but I didn't find an egg from her in there. The temperatures are supposed to be in the 90's for the next forseeable future and she's already standing with her wings cocked open. I'm leaving Thursday morning for a week and don't know what to do about her. My daughter will be here I guess.

Here's 2 pics of Paula's eggbound hen and 1 pic of one of her non-eggbound hens
