Eggbound Chicken still alive

Thank you for posting those for me:) Pretty sick looking isn't it! I don't know how big she can get before splitting open or if that sore of thing would happen. I don't know if I should put her down.

We have the same looking problem. Is she any better? Ours looks like she can't hardly breathe now....

Any suggestions?

I'm back from being away at school for a week. My sweet hen is still alive!!! I can't believe it. She doesn't seem to be having any trouble breathing at all. She's just all big and swollen still. I don't have a clue what to do.

Snap!!!
That's the first time I've seen the pic of your poor baby, Paula...OMG...
Does her tummy feel like a water balloon...
She might've become an internal layer and all the egg bits are winding up in her tummy.

Obviously .......... she won't go on forever...unless there's something I don't know.

If it was me.......I would try to be pro active and get the eggs out. Like have another hold her down and try to unclog the system.

If you plan on putting her down anyway........and she is suffering........I would even try to do a sterile operation with a small cut just to get the eggs out........and if she died...oh well, she would have anyway.

If it was me.......I would want relief..........JMHO.

It's got to be miserable for her.

My friend that is mentoring me with my chickens tells me this for eggbound.

Petroleum Jelly and a Pencil.

lube up the pointed end of the pencil with the petroleum jelly and....um...gently to in through the vent and break the egg that is bound.

HTH

The problem with breaking the egg is that the broken shells will more then likely tear the lining of the intestines and cause a pretty wicked infection. Not a good thing to do...
