Chad has been posting information on getting the certification to test your chickens yourself, which is what I find that most people do. The typical CPT Course (Certified Poultry Tech) teaches a bit about Biosecurity and then everything you need to know to get your License. The courses that Chad set up include a lecture on Animal Husbandry given by 2 of the top Poultry Docs in the state, I highly recommend going if you can, the next one is on March 7th.

I've heard from other BYCers that they were quoted an outrageous amount of money to get a tech out and bleed their birds. Here in Chester County there are NO techs and so I had to get my license to help our 4H so they could show. I find it a bit stressful, or perhaps I just stink at it, but I would DEFINITELY pay someone $50 to come test my flock rather than do it myself..

Being eight minutes away from the PSU campus, I can't imagine that I wouldn't be able to find a good tech to help me out. I do want to take the class, but want the testing to be done BEFORE we move. :/

HEY ALL!!!!!!!!!

We have two classes being offered in March 2013 (Information is attached)

March 7, 2013 – Harrisburg (PDA Headquarters) in Room 309
Classroom portion only.

March 13, 2013 – State College (Poultry Education & Research Center) PSU
Classroom portion & hands-on with live birds

The State College class will be the bleeding of the birds included.

Interested participants are required to complete the attached application and return to me at [email protected] or fax to 717-787-1868.

Here's his post. Does the "bleeding of the birds included" mean that that's the field drawing that is required?

Oh my goodness! AWESOME! I'm so glad, I was worried about that part! I do definitely want to do this. Just printed the app. It says to send the skills check list with the application... Wouldn't the skills check list come AFTER you take the class? If so, how on earth do we send that with the application to JOIN the class?!

ETA: Ironically, I'm probably going to have to take a day off of nursing school to get this done, LOL. For some reason, I find that funny.

Yep! We have a good one here that works at the vet's office. PM me and I will give you his contact info.

It says to send the app and money... But on that post, it says email or fax it... How do we email/fax payment? And what payment forms are accepted?
