I have a little happy news. There are 4 scovies this morning, not 3. The grey male was walking across the yard when I looked out the window. I was also able to see that the other survivor is Elvis, a young male with lots of personality. Cross your fingers that I can get them into a pen tomorrow when they come up in the afternoon to eat corn.

That is great news. You cannot lure them with food at any other time?

I just checked my girls to give them some fresh bread.. and my white hen is dead. My baby snow white had a cold for a while and I did everything I could to get her better, but it seems it was not enough. She was a lovely little hen who layed blue eggs.
So sorry! Chickens don't live nearly long enough, do they?

So girls are first to dust?

Then the boys will be the ones in the recliner with the remote shouting "yo chicks, bring me some scratch and some of Chad's OJ"!
the boys are the ones sleeping in the food dish!

Nothing will get them to leave the pond. If they are away from the pond, I can get one of my English shepherds to help herd them back. Too close to the pond, and they go in to the small pool of open water at the end. I don't want a dog to follow them onto the ice - It's pretty thin in places after these warmer days.
