Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

well i would like some chicks and a cow and some goats and i've always thought a miniature donkey would be fun to have...but for right now i'll stick with what i have lol...and speaking of chicks/chickens i'd like to get a Black Australorp Rooster to go with my hen...I'm in central PA (southern huntingdon county)...if anyone has one or knows of where to get one at a reasonable price please let me know...thanks!

These guys in Chester county had a couple last week...http://www.pickeringvalleyfeed.com/Poultry-Schedule-2013.html They don't show any deliveries upcoming though...maybe worth a call....

I need help (no comment from those that have met me!) I have a pair of Ameraucanas in with the Biker Chicks (that is my big flock). Thus, the eggs contain EE. The problem being that until someone goes broody, I have no EE peeps. Chick Days means EE peeps.
Someone please tell me that I don't want the peeps from any feed mill/TSC!!!!:barnie Y'know? The more I think about it, the more I prefer more chickens over more dogs. Sorry cute little puppies! I like the chickens more now.
Guess that takes care of the new puppy question.  Except that they are really cute. And they are in the house to keep me safe (which is what started the whole "I need a big dog" thing). Good grief. Someone tell me that I don't want EE chicks, and I don't want a dog, and I don't want a mini cow, and I don't want goats!!!

Well, at least you're not hoarding cats or potbelly pigs....lol

all:

Got my coop and pen 80% completed...Ebay cheap stuff....I wasn't expecting alot ...but the instruction sheet read "Innstruion" 1/2 the screw holes didn't match up....the nesting bed is 1/2 off level as well as the perches....never underestimate cheap Chinese stuff....it'll buy me a year to build a better one.

Just a little bit of advice for those of you working on your enclosed runs... Make sure you have some kind of angle or pitch to the top if you intend to tarp it for the winter.... Have done nothing but fight with mine this winter. I get big chunks of ice that sag down and are so large I can't get them off the tarp - need to make some adjustments this summer for next winter, I'm tired of the steady flow of melting snow/ice dripping inside the run creating a swamp!

If your run isn't too wide you can build a frame from PVC to set over it in the winter... we did this for our boat and the frame supports the tarping. works well and doesn't need an extreme arch to allow snow to slide off
Is this a rooster learning how to crow??
That's what our boys sounded like last summer... we laughed every time we heard Grayson try to crow for a month before he got it figured out so it remotely resembled a crow!
some people.......I just stopped at the butcher shop and got a chicken dinner for lunch, the girl at the counter said, wait a minute, don' you raise your own chicken,,,,,,I said "Yea, but your's are already cooked, mine are still walking...

now remember I still have 1 in sick bay, so I am sitting here with a chicken in my lap, and eating a chicken dinner....YUM !!
Yep... it does seem wrong, but we do the exact same thing! And I still think it seems wrong to feed chickens scrambled eggs! LOL but they love them!
Stopped at tsc and no chicks jumped in my truck! They tried to talk me in to some, but I told them mine are hatching as we speak and I have a chicken in my living room getting healthy.
No one blinked. Gotta love it.
We were at our local one this week and managed to escape with no stowaways! Not that we didn't ooohhh and aahhhh a bit! We should be ready to pick up some meat chicks in another week or two, so will hold off till then.

If you want EEs we can set you up with eggs from our gang... a hodgepodge of colors, but ours lay well and haven't quit all winter. Let me know and I can save a dozen or two if you want to set up an incubator and give them a try. I know the roos are busy with the hens, so hopefully decent fertility.
There is no pic w/the video. If it sees me, it won't do it. I am hiding on the stairs! It makes that noise in the am when it can hear us upstairs. It is a 6-8 wk old silkie.
I think ours were about 8 wks when they started to croak... uhhmm... crow.... maybe closer to 10 wks, but I don't know anything about silkie roos, so can't say for sure
