I doubt the marans eggs will get darker. Usually they start dark and get lighter over time. So, assuming the summer picnic happens, can you take chicks home on the bike? You could keep em warm between your boobies.

Will the Marans eggs get darker, or are mine duds? Today the egg was like a good RIR. I only saw a difference when I was using camera flash.

If I have duds, I will be buying more. Then I will hope that any babies that hatch will lay darker. Chicken math is such a hardship!! LOL!

think you might have to buy more, i don't think they get darker as they lay, in fact, they get lighter most of the time, what few hens i have, blue wheaten marans, lay the really dark eggs.

I got to say I feel a little better, maybe the alcohol really does help a cold...
with all the soap makers and wine makers, I say we set up a seminar tent at this get together so we can all be taught...got a feeling this will turn out to be a weekend thing instead of just a day trip....
I feel bad that I will not have anything to sell, not very crafty and will not have chicks, so I will just be a buyer,,(better bring the truck), and maybe cash in a savings bond...I want soap, and candles, and some homemade dishtowels and wine and rootbeer..and a nice rooster painting...and things I don't even know I want...I could bake things but that's more for the meal than to sell....
pictures will soon be coming, finally got a camera to use other than my phone, but have no card for it so can only tae 10 pics at a time....I really need to get rid of birds ASAP...I see the feed bill, problem is I have lot's of birds that I can not identify since they came from swap eggs, and I am really bad at teling breeds apart...

I will eventually buy an incubator "just in case". Like if she gets up, and decides not to go back to the nest, and I know the eggs are viable. Or if I have too many eggs in the fridge (like now!!) and need a place to store the eggs.

I know what will happen if (when!) I buy an incubator. The idea of incubating is not as scary as it used to be. I do like natural chickbirth, but ... I am only human. I can only wait so long for chicks!!
