Oh Christ...  now I'm scared that if I get chickens they'll attack my son who is 5 years old, and has autism. He's petrified of dogs, but likes looking at the chickens at Linvilla Orchards.

No, no, no. Get some hens. Definitely worth it. Its just that some roosters can be boogies. Not the majority of them.

Made my first egg sale today!!! Good deal...$1 a dozen!!!!

For the buyer indeed!

I must be terrible.... I charge $3/ doz! But brown eggs in store are at least $4.00 gotta pay for their feed and treats! No one has complained yet....

I wish we could get that around here...

Yeah once all mine start laying I was thinking $2/doz

I charge $2 a dozen and have several repeat customers. I do give some away to family/friends. For the Relay for Life sale I charged $3/dozen and $4/dozen and a half. I sold all the eggs I could get my hands on, mine, beaglady's and a friend who is local. Got to NJ and had several people ask me if I had extras! So I told them I'll be back soon with more eggs.

GET RID OF HIM!!!! A.S.A.P! I had a roo, my favorite one, that turned evil over night it seems. I know people say to try and teach him who's boss, but if you have kids I wouldn't risk it. A couple months ago my S.O.B. took a flying leap at my daughter, feet first, and left a long scratch across her face straight across her eyelid. I cringe to think what could've happened. My roo , btw, never bit anyone. Still evil though!

Pretty sure Bruce could fix that roosters behavior problem ....

Apply the Louisville slugger....or I hear a sand wedge works well too....

First, IMO I would get rid of the roo.
The actual "retraining" exercises are; Carry the rooster around for about half an hour like a football. Talk to him, stroke him, ignore him. Doesn't matter.
Second, kick him (like a football again) when he comes at you. Don't go overboard. I know someone that killed the rooster the first time.
Third, separate him from the flock. I believe two weeks was the time out suggested.
If you like having a rooster, there are tons of nice ones that need a home.

Yeah, unfortunately this is the best bet. The rooster is not going to change.

Thank You guys! I will probably will just get rid of him. Grr..I appreciate all the honesty. It's a shame that he may not change. I have a super nice rooster that will be going to coop may, he's a delight and a pushover. LOL!! Oh yeah, and the brahma is really nice also.

Congratulations on your first egg sale!! I can't wait until this is my main business. I will be selling for $3.00 per dozen with a .50 kick back if they bring back their container to recycle. ;-)

Chickens are great, just like they said stay away from roosters unless u want babies then find a breed that is more docile! Might also want to stick with bantams since they are smaller and he may tolerate them more! I got bantams so my 4 yr old daughter could handle them! Didn't want something that was bigger then her! Good luck!
