Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Welcome!! Glad to have another on board!

I see you list Cornish rocks on your breeds... are they for meat or pets?
They'll be for meat. I did promise my son up to 8 of the most loving would be true pets and not be cooked at all, so far that's been the Tints. My son's kinda funny about it, I told him it would be slightly easier if we don't name the meat birds (the CRs), but he's insisted on trying to name all of them. The only ones he hasn't named (YET) are the newest Tints and NHs. Thankfully I'm a hunter and his step-father's family raise their own beef, so he understands the process and reasons. I just hope he'll be better about it than my mother, she's fine with eggs and wants them, but has told me if I make anything with chicken she doesn't want to know if it's ours or store bought.

Nope, not the smartest answer.... but good one!!

I'd go with this one also... though in the interest of promoting the much maligned chicken math... a few more couldn't hurt!!!

There should have been 2 more, but I ran out of envelopes for the 2 small items & have to get more so I can ship them tomorrow, plus 2 more boxes of eggs tomorrow.
th.gif
I need like 1-2 more eggs for each box.

I thought about that. I have too many hawks around and don't want to risk all my birds. Already lost a duck, 2 turkeys, and a chicken to a critter inside the run. Don't want to lose anymore outside the run.
We have 2 "extra" roos & a hen that free range during the day. The hen goes back in the coop at night & the 2 roos each pick a porch & roost on it, the banty roo on the kitchen porch on a roost put there just for him & the LF roo on the railing on the back porch. If we let any more than that roam they end up in the neighbor's yard or the road so we just let those ones out during the day. The roos stay out at night because if we put them in the coop they all fight with the roo that's already in there. So you don't have to let a bunch out, just let a couple out at a time. They will come back to the coop at bedtime or when they see you bringing the food, whichever happens 1st.

Catching up on the post lol
And I thought my fiance was the only 1 who ran around with chickens on his hands.

Ok so i need input! I have a broody who I don't think was able to keep her eggs alive! They were supposed to hatch out on Wednesday and nothing so far! What do I do to get her to stop being broody?? I am at a loss I know she can't sit for another 3 weeks on new eggs! Hope someone has some advice!!

Also who had the easy way to do fermented feed?? I think I want to try it but don't want to do the long process?
For the hen, either steal her some eggs on the verge of hatch from the bator (or a friend's bator) & let her hatch them as her own, or get a couple very young chicks & slip them under her at night while she's asleep. They usually accept them that way.

Does anyone have an picture of their bantie chicken along side of a LF? Interested in seeing the size difference once everyone is grown up.

This is a 10 month old LF English Orp.

Bantam mix roo hatched same day as roo above
In this case the LF is about 6 times the weight of the banty.

Welcome! Boyertown over here

Does anyone know of anybody local that breeds Aussie spotted ducks, East indies or maybe high quality calls? I have a friend who is looking to find some of these...
I have calls but they are breeder quality, not show quality.

3 d'anver out and doing well, 1 more still in hatcher wet and sticky....the 2 eggs left, 1 is the wrong end pipper, I think it hit a blood vessel, and the other egg is not doing anything......but 4 out of 6 on shipped eggs is still good.....

SO WHO IS CLAIMING THESE LITTLE GUYS>>>>>>
Ohhh, ohhhhh! ME!!! Look blue to me & I like blue anything.

I HAVE A MAJOR ORDEAL TODAY! and of course the Day DH takes off work and is home to witness it!!
hit.gif

Our Ancona Drake, Clem is trying to kill the brahma roosters in the run!
The one rooster is ripped top of wattle down about 4 inches long! we put veterycin on it and gave him some antibiotics but DH don't care, the ducks have to go.
I locked him alone in the duck house for now, DH heard the commotion and came running and said I need to get rid of the ducks or he will get rid of them.
OMG the drake was physco and I couldn't even stop him! He flipped physco I swear! Is this normal or what!! I am so upset I have 17 eggs in the bator too!

I don't need this crap after I called the processing guy and dealing with setting all that chicken sheat up!
hy cant everyone even ducks and chickens get along!
I pen all of mine by breed & have more anconas hatching. I'd be willing to take them since there won't be a roo around for him to beat up on.

How much would a Trio of ancona go for and should I even sell the drake!! The dirty RAT!
I can swap ya some chickens for them

This bunch of chicks/ducklings that I have in the brooder is NOISY!!!! They're constantly chattering to one another. I can hear them through the vents. With every other batch, that meant they needed water/feed, or the light moved....not this bunch. They just want to talk. I've checked dozens of times. Plenty of food/water. Not too hot (not spread all over) Not too cold (not huddled). How do those of you who have them in your living space deal with it???

I have just learned to ignore it, but then again I can ignore just about anything if I want to.

The rule at my house is if we intend to eat it & the kids insist on naming it it has to be named after food (Thigh, Wing, Drumstick, Leg, Nugget) or the holiday that it will be the meal for (poults named Thanksgiving & Christmas) that way they are already thinking of it as food from the start & don't have an issue with it ending up on their plate.

There is NO SUCH THING as a goat proof fence

Eventually you will understand this & stop trying.
