Hi everyone! I am in Pottsown, PA! I have never been to Green Dragon...what is it like? Is it just an auction? When do they do the poultry and rabbits?

I wouldn't...mine was just awful. Once I duct taped it though, got some good hatches! I had to fiddle with what I thought was right and went from there. I didn't like the Marans I had, but the eggs were very pretty! I think it was because I was already jaded with my Langshans at that point. Everything else paled in comparison once I got them.

They should hatch really well for you! Don't worry if you can't see through the egg shells to candle the eggs. You'll be able to see at some point, it may just be later in the incubation when you see development.

I didn't see any when I was there. I ended up coming home with nothing. Never saw so many guinea pigs and rabbits in my life, LOL. I only stayed about 1/2 way thru the auction as my DH was rather bored.

Good thing I didn't drive the hour and a half it takes me to get there!

Its a big flea market that has a livestock auction on Friday nights. the whole thing is only open on fridays, but it opens early and stays open late. Its a great way to spend a long weekend in the Lancaster area!

Welcome rilly! Green Dragon is FUN! but they do not do the animal auction until 6:30 at night. I found this out the hard way.... during the day there are venders as far as the eye can see. Most of them are gone in the evening, although I did score a Gyro the last time we went after 8:00p.m., so some of the venders stick around. They do some large animals around 8, we saw goats, a few bull calves and pot bellied pigs 2 weeks ago, only a few. There have always been a lot of cages and guinnea pigs and bunnies, bunnies, bunnies, when we go. Lots of EE chicks, turkey poults and hatching eggs. Brown, Green, Guinnea, pheasant, ummm and others. I forget what all. Oy yeah, duck eggs too.

Gardeninmama: You can usually at least make out the air cell in the Marans on day 18, and I figure... if it doesn't stink.... it stays! Why not? it may just surprise you and hatch.

Here are some of my new babies, an OE, Black Eng Orp, Cuckoo Marans and White Marans with my Broody Holland, and another pic with a Blue Eng Orp and Black Eng Orp:

I have to announce to the world that my first batch of Lavender Orps have arrived, with more hatching out on Friday. I am so excited, and grateful to Lavenderorpgirl, who is wonderful. I'll be posting pics tomorrow, they've had a long day and need some sleep. How is it possible to love chickens like this? It is craziness!!!
