What did you give your hen? I am giving my guy Tylan 50, but... well... It's expired. By a year. It's a brand new bottle, so I am using it anyways. He doesn't have a runny nose now, but he's still raspy and sneezing. I don't really like spending so much on birds for them to be sick - but he was not sick when I picked him up, nor the night I got him home.
I am still wondering if Pen G wouldn't have been a better option. At least that's not expired.
ETA:
Heather, I will be there to pick up some chicks when you have them! I would love some mottleds!
Oh, and I have a nice start to another Am. flock. I have about 20 chicks now and still have another dozen+ in the 'bator
I am posting pictures of the Mottled Cochins!!! Is anybody feeling like they want one? I just can't get enough of these cuties. I can't wait to hatch some of my own chicks!!!!
La la la la la! I caaaaan't heeeeeeere yoooooou! They're way cute but I'm sticking to large fowl. I'm probably going to move my BC Marans into the layer flock so I can concentrate on the cuckoos, Ameraucanas and Faverolles. I've resisted a couple other kinds I find intriguing. Maybe I've grown up?![]()
And I let the scovy ducks out of confinement today. They were so happy, and flew to the pond within minutes. I hope they stay safe, but I can't see making them stay cooped up and sad looking forever just to make it happen.
Yes, I gave her Tylan, she is responding well. I also am putting vet rx under each wing and the top of her head. The number on the bottle, 50, 100, 250 is just the volume number in milliliters or cc's. So you can use any bottle. Are you injecting or drenching? I am injecting, every 3 days (2 doses) max. Then I am going from there...............
Quote: I just put my first 14 eggs in the incubator half an hour ago. I will be anxious to hear about your progress to help me stay calm(er).
I see you have decided to not do medicated. I can tell you that 50# lasts 8 weeks (to the day for me) for 6 chicks. You can feed it past the recommended 4-6 weeks (look at the back of the bag. It will tell you recommended time). So I'm going to be needing another bag of feed soon. My question this time is should I switch to medicated feed? I did not get it the first time around. If I do switch how long do I keep them on it? I guess a better question may be how much should I buy?
I did get Leghorns a month ago. They are about to turn six weeks on Friday. Psycho chicks that cried 24/7 and mysteriously stopped after about two weeks. I did switch to a black bulb (that helped) but had to go back to the red light when the stink got bad enough to put them out on the porch. Now they are in the "holding area", and only make noise when they are out of food. Then they attack my feet, and seem to try to pull me toward the feeder.I have freaking had it !!I have 7 leghorn chicks approx. 3 weeks old. They are insane. Any time I go to put food or water in the brooder they fly around screeching like I'm going to have them for dinner. At the moment I have 4 production red chicks and 4 ducklings (yes I know the ducklings need their own place, they will shortly) and these poor things all get trampled by the leghorns. They are all about the same size. Can I throw them in a brooder by themselves in the house (they are in the house now but with a heat lamp) without a heat lamp? Average temp inside is about 60* unless I would start up the wood stove next to them. Then they would be a snack!! I'm worried more about not being able to tame the others with these little a******s acting so crazy. I have half a mind to throw them out with the 6 week old chicks and ducks and let them teach them some manners.![]()

I can tell you that if I do get them again, they will be outside from the start!
Quote: That is hysterical!
I get a minimum of a dozen eggs/day, and I was averaging 17 (IDK why the drop. I guess they found their rhythm). That was five weeks ago. I now have 15 more chicks (only one rooster that I see so far) and I have begun incubating. I will be getting 3 dozen/day. I will be making a lot of custard, omelets, and freezing cooked omelet shells. I do sell, but not that many!Let's forget about chicken math for a moment. I just did some egg math. 7 leghorns, 3 dozen eggs a week, 12 more hens of different breeds, 14 bantams (my luck not too many roos) 12 ducklings (sex to be determined) what the heck will I do with that many eggsand I still want more chicks LOL.![]()
We will be happy to help you build (and build!) your numbers back up!!Hello out there! Just found this forum and am quite excited to see so many of us Pennsylvanians out there! I'm from Lewisberry (15 mins north of Dillsburg or 20 min west of Harrisburg). Grew up in Gettysburg! Woohoo!Anyway, at my last count I have 8 hens. 2 RIR, 1 Wellie, 3 EE, and 2 BR. I have lost 25 hens and 4 roos in the past 3 months. These **** foxes/hawks/coons/ and everything else under the sun are attacking them. I am trying to build my count back up. I am expecting 3 EE's and 2 BR's on the 20th. Really want a couple of GLW or a couple of Wellies, but didn't want to order 15 more!![]()

So anyway, Hi out there!
What breed? I am looking for BRs.
I was just wondering tonight if anyone wanted BR. I have not seen anyone here breeding them.
These guys are beautiful! I especially like the blue mottled boy!Rey, my hen I got from him is sick too. She is getting better. It was some form of acute respiratiory disease. Hopefully they will make it through alright! Just a couple of random mottled cochin bantam pics. I just love these little birds! Blue Mot cockerelblack mot cockerel
