will finally be getting (a couple),of my feathered girls!!!... The 26th... It's only been a year, I've been asking (sometimes) rather dumb questions and trying to learn as much as one can w/out the actual experience. Thank you sooo much everyone and their advice!! I know there will be more questions!!! Once the girls and I get "settled in", will be working on getting the second-half of the CPT certification!!

.. **props to Chad for starting me on that path***....so ready to do this!!!! sorry for barging in like this.....just really excited..it's been alonggg time waiting.

I am not adding water right now. I have 23% humidity, and will leave it like that until I candle. At least until day 10. I think. I am trying.

Now I want to add water, and raise humidity! I am still trying to decide, and now I am seriously doubting myself.
I run humidity 30-40% until lockdown (still air) & then 40-70% for lockdown depending on what I'm hatching. Quail at 40-50%, chicks at 50-60% & waterfowl at 60-70%.

Forced air bators need to run 10-15% higher for incubation & 10-20%higher for lockdown.

Wait a sec, are you in lockdown? Isn't 50-55 normal until then?

Yeah, I am obsessed with my Temp and humidity now.. This was my morning routeen with the eggs: My Ex is staying with me for a few days.. and watch me like.. Umm ok, this is interesting!!
As I suck out the old water though a fish tank tube.. ( what I prolly looked like

) Then I have my baster pushed into this Fish tank tube, I had to cut the ends and wrap it around the baster to put the hot water back in!! Boy did i burn my fingers a little, I made that water pretty hot but the humidity was down to like 50-55.. ugh

Sally will give me the third degree for this but here goes........I do not even measure humidity until lockdown and even then i only raise it to 55 or 60 very seldom going over that,,,I have no problems with shrink wrapped chicks,,,,actually it's the opposite for me, I drown alot of them..

Yep, arrived yesterday,,all unpacked and resting, a couple are pretty shook up but otherwise look good, plan on setting either tonight or tomorrow morning.
YAY! Hope they hatch well for you. I've only had 2 clear & 2 quitters out of the 25 I have set right now (& that's doing great considering my bator issues

Hatched 2 pekins & 3 runners last week.

Yes I am in lock down now, My humidity was steady @ 35% during most of the hatch.. I am just replacing water, not opening it any more, through that tube, hose, I was pretty good with it untill lock down, now I am like a hawk! Will run home at lunch again to check

Wing, i recorded every day, morning and night and Noon if i was home, I printed out the sheet from the link from her, Hatching eggs 101.. So trying to follow that article best I can.. I guess I will see how it goes in a few days, I did notice, I think, 1 rocking, could have bumped the table, I like to think it is rocking!! HA!!

Same here. As long as my humidity is above 25% for incubation I don't add any water until lockdown & then only as much as absolutely necessary.

Quote: I have a 2 in 1 digital thermometer/hygrometer. I love that it tells me the daily highs and lows (Sally did say it was nice!). I realize now that I would be worse if it didn't tell me. Right now I cannot pass the bator without looking, and will check it if I wake up in the middle of the night (thank you, you stupid dog wanting attention!).
I even had a nightmare that it went up to 103* last night! You KNOW I checked the moment I woke up!
I am still thinking about lockdown humidity. I have seen 48% as popular, as well as 55. I am also seeing 70 and 72%. With such differences, I am (at this moment) thinking that 60% sounds good.
LMP, I refused to incubate last year because I didn't know enough yet. I thought I was ready when I was asked, "Would you be interested in an incubator?" Then again, I worry, and things go well. I don't worry, and they don't go the way they were supposed to. So far in life that means that a meal tastes awesome to you, but I can't enjoy it because the bread didn't bake as high as I wanted it to. In incubation, I may lose one chick out of 14, and swear it is my fault for not worrying enough.
Yeah, I am gonna be a basket case in May.

As much as I hated my childhood, I miss Christmas Village. I went again about (gosh, I didn't realize it had been that long!) ten years ago. It SHRANK!!! Not near as great as it used to be. We still counted burnt out bulbs, and put the tally in the comment box.

That was my father's way of being sure we looked at everything.
Now I am depressed. And, what do you mean, "idiots"?
Okay, some people do drive terribly. But it is the Pennsylvanians!!

first off Wing you scare me!

MC you really counted bulbs? that's awesome! around here we think its funny so many come for that. With led lights, animations and stuff "now adays" that place is old and they never change it up. same old painted plywoaod and same stuff in the windows. lol I used to like taking the kids when they had a petting zoo now the thrill is how grumpy will the train conductor be! HA HA HA
