That comb, and those waddles are pretty pronounced, and red for an 8 week old. Could be wrong, but I'd bet roo.

@ 7 weeks I would agree. Heck at 20 weeks the hens I had barely had a comb when they started laying with very little color

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a nice memorial day weekend. My efforts to break my broody silkie have been in vien.... So I think I am going to shove some eggs under her. If she won't get off the nest i might as well let her hatch out some chicks for me.

Give them time! They could just be late bloomers!
Have you ever put golf balls in the nest for them? Or some other type of fake eggs?

I have a hatching issue!

I had a gosling hatch with my help because of shrink wrapping yesterday. I had another pip and I have been watching it, waiting for it to absorb the blood vessels so I could chip it out of the shell, too. Once I got a leg, wing and the head out I put it back in to get it's self out because not all the yolk was absorbed. And it's head is huge. It's like it's whole head (back of neck, head, around eyes, under beak) is full of squishy ick. I have never hatched anything like it... Not in the ducks or chicks and this is only my 2nd gosling.

Any ideas? I didn't think it would live because of it but I helped it over 12hrs ago and it's still alive. It lived in that shell for 2 days before I could help it. It did pip on the wrong end, too. It did not get it's self out of the shell. I had to finish helping it.

It's like squishy chick... in it's head.

Day 23, had 32 eggs in. 12 hatched so far. should i wait it out or pip them. some are shipped eggs with saddle air sacs. only two of those hatched. really would like more of those especially
