Hi Chad!! Woohoo! You are now in the 717!!!!!

wish I would of known this a few days ago,,,,I just ordered turkey eggs,,,we looked for something that we could breed off of and ended up going with the wishard line of standard bronze,,,I have 18 eggs coming, if it would be a good hatch and any one else is interested in breeding them let me know..will be adding sweetgrass next spring also.
Will you be butchering any turkeys around thanksgiving again?

Quote: hoping to have a few extra for the holidays,,,never know what my hatches are gonna be like though,,,,hubby is thinking about going to auction and getting a box of Broad Breasted Turkeys like we always did in the past,,,,,but they are sold in lots of 10 to 15 and we do not want to raise that many.

all of this turkey talk is making me hungry for one,, has anyone tried the trash can turkey, looks easy and yummy, yea I know it can be hazardous using a trash can, but so is my driving and I do that every day

I would be willing to take several of those off your hands as long as they aren't too expensive. I can always use more turkeys, especially to eat.

we started with a dorm size fridge under the roof of the front porch,,,it worked great for awhile, if you keep it stocked you end up with a loyal customer base, tat grows by word of mouth...

the plucker and fryer made so much difference we are discussing ways that we could safely rent the equipment out to help others,,,we are concerned if this is a hazard tough.
Guess it's a good thing I'll be expanding the flock. Although right now I only have family and one probable customer.

Personally I'd see a lawyer about having a waiver drawn up, that includes directions and warnings. I know my lawyer does things like that for a reasonable cost, and some consults are free, but I can't speak for all lawyers.

Question about chicks ... usually when do their lil wing feathers start coming in?? I am starting to think 4 out of my 6 are a few days older then the other 2, 2 are still pretty fluffy and 4 are starting to get their lil wings in and their tail feathers. Then again I don't really have a clue seeing as these are the first chicks I have ever had. Any thoughts??

So chad comes back and the thread is even more alive!! woot woot!!!
Ive got 7 13-16 week pullets: 1 black australorp, the rest are rhode island reds, either pure or mutts with americauna. And two barred rocks that may become one because that bird has been pissing me off!

Waiting to see how many roosters I have, other then the two I know are roos for sure before I get more birds.
Need any roosters? (;
Nope no roosters!! i think i may have 2 too many on my hands at the moment!! lol What I have is listed in my signature! :)
I m also new to the goat thing, but am figuring it out as I go along, you are welcome to stumble along with me!

Anyone interested in buying goats can PM me, we are coming down the homestretch in their pregnancies and seeing signs of the impending labor. God willing, we'll have some babies soon!

Edited to add: Gooseygooseygan, I'm more than happy to share goat milk, if you can help me get it out of them!

I would be interested in buying some goats milk, not sure I have ever tried it, but I love Goat cheese!!
well East Hopewell township SUCK!!! My mom thought she could take a few of her hens. No. You have to have 5 acres to be allowed any kind of poultry. She would have to go infront of the zoning commitee and pay $500 just to see if they would consider a revision, and even if she does that they could say no. :( So the rest of her flock is available. 2 RIR, 1 Buff orp, 1 black aust, 1 Barred rock a wellsummer roo and a young Black copper maran roo. :( Would like to keep the wellsummer roo and hens together of possible. Guess I will post on craigslit.
Yeah mine said the same thing.. well not the 5 acres thing..and i have cough cough... 20 chickens.. cough cough...

I would be interested in buying one of your turkeys!!! If you are selling!! apparently I will buy anything you have to offer!! ha!

Just do it. BB Turkeys are like pigs with wings. We let 'em get huge, then cut the breasts into steaks for grilling, and we make sausage from the leg and thigh meat. Parts can be brined and smoked too - I'm very creative because I've been unsuccessful in talking DH into raising a pig or 2.

Quote: Pullets often feather much faster than roos in most breeds, but if that is a barred rock, I'm thinking that head spot looks a bit big for a pullet.

Quote: Please PM me instructions on the sausage & smoking thingy. We really hate dark meat around here & any way to make it more useful so it doesn't become cat or bird food is much appreciated.
