Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

So chad comes back and the thread is even more alive!! woot woot!!!
Nope no roosters!! i think i may have 2 too many on my hands at the moment!! lol What I have is listed in my signature! :)
I would be interested in buying some goats milk, not sure I have ever tried it, but I love Goat cheese!!
Yeah mine said the same thing.. well not the 5 acres thing..and i have cough cough... 20 chickens.. cough cough...
I would be interested in buying one of your turkeys!!! If you are selling!! apparently I will buy anything you have to offer!! ha!
Where did you get your birds from?

Where did you get your birds from?
I got 5 from wing, 5 from a tractor supply, I started with chicks from a lady in Aston, She gave me some, most of those ended up being rooster, I let 2 hatch from my girls, I picked up another 5 from the MD swap. I need to stop getting birds! Thinking I have too many! but if 2 are roosters then that is 2 less I will have! Also according to chicken math if they are not laying they do not count! So I only have 6 -7 chickens! lol

Pullets often feather much faster than roos in most breeds, but if that is a barred rock, I'm thinking that head spot looks a bit big for a pullet.

Please PM me instructions on the sausage & smoking thingy. We really hate dark meat around here & any way to make it more useful so it doesn't become cat or bird food is much appreciated.

Oh my, I'd be interested too....please!!! with sugar on top!!!

I m also new to the goat thing, but am figuring it out as I go along, you are welcome to stumble along with me!

Anyone interested in buying goats can PM me, we are coming down the homestretch in their pregnancies and seeing signs of the impending labor. God willing, we'll have some babies soon!

Edited to add: Gooseygooseygan, I'm more than happy to share goat milk, if you can help me get it out of them! :D

I would be more than happy to help. Do you know what breed they are? Can we see pics of her please!!!!! Hehe nothing, well all most, cuter than baby goat's..

For sausage, we bone the legs & thighs, the weigh the meat. Add 10% pork fat. We used to do it without the pork fat but the texture was never right. Use in place of pork in any sausage recipe. Sometimes we stuff into casing, sometimes freeze it as loose sausage. It depends on the recipe.

Most of our recipes are tweaked versions from this book http://www.amazon.com/Home-Producti...371502594&sr=8-5&keywords=sausage+recipe+book

or this one

http://www.amazon.com/Great-Sausage...371502594&sr=8-1&keywords=sausage+recipe+book

The second book also has a brine recipe for smoked turkey that we've changed up the seasonings for. We cold smoke all our poultry, which means we can only smoke it when the temp outside is like a refrigerator. The resulting product needs to be cooked before eating, but we think it stays moister than if hot smoked.

Question about chicks ... usually when do their lil wing feathers start coming in?? I am starting to think 4 out of my 6 are a few days older then the other 2, 2 are still pretty fluffy and 4 are starting to get their lil wings in and their tail feathers. Then again I don't really have a clue seeing as these are the first chicks I have ever had. Any thoughts??

Those are probably the pullets.

will need to update that if I ever find my phone,,,I am hoping I left it at work on friday..
I never count shipped eggs to hatch but if they do I will be selling off any that I don't plan on keeping for breeding, I am hoping I can pick out what is wat before winter
Chad !!! What you been up to....gotta tell you since I seen you last and you have a habit of looking down on top my head and pointing out the gray,,,I broke down and covered those grays
If you were longer in the leg I wouldn't be able to look down on the top of your head

I know these girls are going to keep me on the edge of my seat. Cleaned their 'birthing suite' and put down fresh straw, they will probably hold out another week now.

Porkchop is doing well!.

Yep Chad has a Piggie named Porkchop and he is a castrated male. Also my big beautiful FBCM roo started grunting. So couseling sessions have began with the roo.
