NEED a home for my two sweet chickies about 10 weeks.  I am renting the end of a Townhome in North Cornwall Township.  ALL the neighbors loved my chickens.  We are at the end of a rural township where there is a farm right on the other side of a row of Townhomes.  It is strange how we got a letter from the Township stating the chickens have to be gone by June 26, 3 DAYS AFTER THE LANDLORD came by to paint the porch.

One chickie is a New Hampshire Red, and the other is an Ameraucana.  The red one will sit on my lap to be petted.  I've enjoyed them so much!  And they are very healthy.  I've also really enjoyed Backyard Chickens!

Free chickies to a good home!  Please call (717)-270-0709 or IM me.  (Nora)

:hugs So sorry. People can be jerks and sometimes you just wanna :smack them..

Ah! I have nine total, but I think three of the chicks are roos so that makes six?(:
All I want to do is buy more chickens, its bad.
I am content with my current flock, I am drawing the line at 20! lol That line started at 4, but hey so many varieties to choose from! With the space I have for them I am at my max. Once I get tired of these girls (If I get tired of these girls) I may eventually pick some different breeds, But very happy with what I have and can't wait for everyone to start laying!

Does anyone put anything down in the run area? I am not thrilled with the smell I am getting, chicken smell is all.. I see sand, but is that just in the coop vs using hay? I do throw my grass clippings in there after the BF mows, what else do you do to cut down on the smell, especially on hot summer days!!

Oh also can't wait!!To show everyone my new water-er for my girls, it will prolly end up holding 6-8 gallons of water for my ladies! :D Will have pics soon, but this is what I based my waterer off of (see link below)! No hose I will still have to lug the water out with me, or set it up so I can carry the thing to the those hose! lol

I got something similar to this after a visit from my landlord (where I used to live). It was from the health department & claimed my coops were in violation of city ordinance. I called them & offered to let them come inspect my coops, also found out for sure (they told me) that it was the landlord who made the complaint & even offered to let them see the injured bird that was inside that he had complained about as well since I was told by the vet to keep it inside. They came & measured the distance from my coop to the back of the house (took them almost 2 weeks to bother to do so, obviously weren't overly concerned about it), they never even came to the door to check on the injured bird or even let me know they were there & I never would have known they had been there if my roommate hadn't seen the guy walk past the window & texted me to let me know he was there. I never heard any more from them & the next time a neighbor or the landlord complained they got told to leave me alone because I was completely legal.

I would definitely check on all local ordinances & regulations before just giving up my pets. Some people just like to make false accusations to scare you into doing what they want you to do even if you are in the right. I already knew where I stood since I checked on ordinance & regulations before building my coops.

I use sand...and I use 'sweetZ' to keep the ckn-smell down in the coop/run area...it works great! Just sprinkle a little of that around... It absorbs the ammonia in the poop plus feeding them FF helps the poop smell... I also clean- out the coop everyday...I know I do not have the number of chickens that most do here, so it is an option for me & it works for now, plus I am crazy

...OCD...hahha, so there you go! The only thing I smell is the FF...I try to feed them out in the yard, but sometimes have to keep them in the coop(rain). I find that the FF kills the grass..so, I am move their yard-run once a week, also gives them 'new' grass

.. Going to put a little 'lime' on the dead grass spots to help equalize the PH levels.

I use the same bedding I use for my horses for the chickens. It's a pelleted bedding called ABM. I put it in the coop/run area and wet it down with a light spray from the hose and it swells up about 30 times its size. When its wet or dirty it clumps up for easy removal. I just give it a sift when I am cleaning stalls each day. Not sure how this would work on dirt floors. The floor in my horse barn where the chickens are as well is concrete and I put linoleum floor down so it can just be swept clean easy peasy.
