So is it still called a necropsy if you know what they died of (in this case sheer stupidity, we'll never know why the chicken crossed the road, as it got hit by a car on the way)..

Anyway...I cut it up for curiosity sake. Wanted to see if I was overfeeding the chickens, I don't think so as it seemed like there was a ton less fat on this girl than the ones in the store. It was a year old hen. She had LOTS of yolks in her....sad....DH was standing there, "are you done yet?, are you done yet?".

Annie, sorry you have a sick one, not sure what to suggest.

Spent yesterday cleaning out the coop. Gave the ducks a pool....Drake decided it's HIS and noone else can go in it.

We are all so excited, well..me the worst/best..hahaha I have another pip, so that is one out and two pips..yeah!!

3 out of 6 and still have 5 days left...The little one is running around in there and the eggs are rolling every where! They are chirping through their shells....don't know if they telling the other one to- "knock it off out there!" Yes, Getting the cup out, actually- check that-, going to be putting some rocks in there because the temps/humidity are doing very well. When do you all usually take those little crazy ones out??? this one is really something...very strong! hahha ..Oh, hey Wing...don't tell the loving,caring, supportive DH about more eggs....we will keep it between us!

hahha. omg, there is no-hope for me now!!! I just want to hatch-hatch-hatch...I will give them back when I am done

..ahhaha Of course I have more pics,but I am controlling myself. My daughter, her husband, my husband and my 5 month grand-daughter were all up here to watch the little one 'pop-out' it was so awesome to share this experience......Danielle

Missy, I often do this when i lose a layer even if I know why....it is a perfect time to check on the rest of the flock,,,I go as far as putting a slide of poo under microscope at times.
WOW...now everyone knows I am nuts..

I have a question for anyone with an answer. I was wondering were a person could get inoculations(Merak's)sp? for chicks? Do they have to be a 'day-old' to have them? I am interested in this, but not sure were to start, and I don't want to have to buy 50 of them...

Is there a really nasty smell coming from her? If so, it could be vent gleet. Could be a lot of things, but that is one of them.

chick# 2...is out..

oh, i took the water cups out completely, even with the rocks in it..they both went it it and got wet ...

..no more worries about the water now!...the 3rd pip is getting bigger!! soon,real soon

I love your posts and pictures------------please don't feel like you cant post pictures..............I get to share in this exciting event with you! thanks for sharing! I am also looking for Marans yet I have to coordinate my big picture.........I need to get 4-5 birds of a similar age or who lived together............anyway................very exciting pictures ...........keep us posted!

Yes, it has to be administered to day old chicks. If you are hatching at home, you can order it for $20 from www.jefferslivestock.com It's a pretty big bottle with about 1000 doses, but at least it is cheap!
