Ugh! My iPad wont let me multi quote.

I've never had a fart egg or shell less one. They look so weird! I'm sure I will get I one at some point. They freak me out a little.

I love all the pictures of the baby chicks. We should have 3 hatching tomorrow or the next day and then 2 weeks left on the ones under our silkies. She kicked out 2 eggs so far. 10 left and I'm praying some hatch. I need to sneak in at night and candle.

I moved our 2 Easter Eggers and 1 serama in the grow out area with our cochin mix and d'uccle. We did it late last night. Today they seem to be getting along. Those of you who have seramas, do you let them free range? I've been letting the Cochin and d'uccle out and soon the Easter Eggers will be big enough. Pee Wee is still so tiny I'm afraid something will get her. Advice needed!

You probably have had a 'fart egg' and just haven't run across it yet...I usually find them after the fact....like WAY after the fact. We actually got one today from a Marans girl, very exciting!!

I don't have Serams. But my Banty Cochins seem to fare ok. They are the smallest chickens here and the fastest, TOUGH to catchup for blood testing.

Every single egg under my hens are clear :(

My eggs in the incubator are on day 18 and 19. Do I wait to the chicks hatch and sneak them under my silkies or risk opening the bator and slip them under tonight?

Hubby wants me to start over with new eggs for them but they have been sitting for over 21 days already. The first set of eggs ended up not being fertile too. I need advice!

We candled the eggs under our 3 Broodys last night, ALL 8 of the Cochin eggs were infertile...boo. I shuffled the eggs around so all 3 girls could hatch, and had to reshuffle tonight...ARRRRGH! These eggs are due to hatch Saturday, hope all goes well.

We have 6 pullets just coming into lay (19 wk old JGs) and have found numerous soft shelled or shell-less eggs on the roost boards or under them. We have had it happen about every time we have new pullets starting to lay. They should work it out within a week or two.
I just thought it was so weird looking, and feeling.
Feeling kinda like chopped liver.... Does no one like my chickies???? Lol Anyways, i am thrilled to have them. Any ideas as to why we seem to have the most luck hatching in late summer?

"Rubber eggs" are so weird feeling aren't they?
Lovely pics, sorry been trying to keep up on here and it's near impossible lol. They are so weird feeling, and the moisture that leaks out of them makes it even weirder.
Hi from Delaware county pa
Welcome

Afternoon all, hope most of you didn't get too much rain. Whatever storm we had I must have slept through it lol when I got up it looked like it hardly rained at all here ... odd.

Well my day has been AWESOME, dropped the kiddo at preschool, went to the local mennonite discount grocery store and what do I hear next to me ...... another AUSTRALIAN voice!!!!!!

I haven't heard another aussie voice up close and personal since I bumped into another aussie in Oklahoma lol I must have looked like a kid on christmas eve while I was talking to the lady! hahahahaha

My 6 girls are doing well, growing like weeds and come running to me everytime I go anywhere near their run outside - they constantly stalk me for treats lol

The 2 new RSL's I got are fairly quiet, very reserved and ever so slightly skittish still

I am hoping they start to get a bit more welcoming when I finally get to put them outside with the rest of the girls. They are SOOO messy though, constantly knocking over their food, upturning their nesting box I put in for them - I think it is their way of saying they aren't happy to be in the garage

They look fine, no lice, very clean, normal poop, no breathing issues that I have seen over the last week. Part of me wants to go put them in with the girls sooner but then my brain kicks in and says "nooooooooooo be patient" lol
Listen to the logic!!! lol

I'm waiting for a fart egg lol. I don't allow the seramas to free range, mostly because they haven't been truly introduced to the rest of the flock, and their size. They sure are spitfires though!! I have a feeling these little boys would try taking on an eagle to protect their lady or ladies. Ours go into a rabbit cage that we move around the yard that does not have a bottom and only when we're outside. I know of people who do allow them out and about, but I don't know if they are truly free ranging or if they just have a very large aviary. Next year I plan to have a fully enclosed run for the seramas, but I know I won't have the time to get that and their coop done before winter, which is why ours will be indoors this year. BTW how old is your serama?

So we picked up one pair of our new seramas today. The other pair's hen (5 mos) decided to start laying last night and today. So the person we got them from wants to see if she hatches anything. I don't blame her, the roo is so handsome and has a picture perfect strut and the girl is quite lovely too. So we brought Frodo the frizzle and Galadriel home today. I'm actually a little glad it happened this way, now I have more time to look up Tolkien's female characters lol. Gavin insists the serams be named after Tolkien characters. I'll try to post pics tomorrow.

Also got some rock into the ducks' run, unfortunately I didn't get enough so we focused on the worst areas for now.

I feel so bad for our lonely serama. I will definitely get more to keep her company. One of the eggs under our silkies was a serama egg. I'm so sad they are all duds :( I can't wait to see your pics.

Thanks everyone for the advice on the chicks. I'm just so disappointed since this was my first time dealing with a broody.

I was out in the yard with the kids. My husband just cleared a bunch of land to build my new coop. The dirt must be perfect for ground wasps (cicada killers) because they are everywhere! Freaks me out because they are huge! I told the kids to stay away. Looks like we will be doing some late night wasp killing soon. Hopefully it goes better than our ground bee incident. Hubby poured gasoline down the hole, not realizing he left a trail back to the gas can, right next to the truck. He lit the hole and the trail of gas ignited and went back to the can full of gas. It was scary but once it was over I was laughing so hard. If I caught it on camera it would have been a YouTube hit for sure :)
